Is there a reason you need a rug there? I like it without. Very cute room!

Gosh, I hadn't even thought about not doing a rug. I have a rug addiction so it's almost impossible for me not to put a rug in every single room. *blush*

But....you already have carpet, which is like a rug...

I know. But I still like how rugs ground rooms.

My master is a good example of that:

The rug really pulled the whole room together (which understandably might not be necessary in the boys room). (There's artwork above the bed now).

Believe me, Megsy, as a fellow rug addict, I understand. But I really like the clean look you have going, and it's just one more thing to clean (and to risk injuring your foot on those little lego toys which slip surreptitiously under the rug. :)

i think it looks fine without a rug. Very nice room--I like the orange curtains and artwork above the beds!

I do like rugs as I think they add a bit more to room decor. However, for me, I dont think a plain blue rug would do much more for the room--so I wouldn't bother--and save myself some money. If I did find a rug that was unique or perfect for the room--I would get it.

I wouldn't put a rug in the boys room. Unless you want to cause them to trip when they roll out of bed.

Another vote for no rug. Little kids need open play space, a spot on the floor to sit and lean against the bed and read, a place for their friends to sleep in sleeping bags.

Besides, honestly, you have carpeting, not a bare wood floor.

Finally, to me, adding a round rug in the middle of the two beds and in front of the dresser, really visually makes the space feel crowded.

One other thought, tho you may have already planned to do this. Consider used a fitted colored sheet (perhaps a navy) on the box springs. They will look much more finished, without the fussiness of a bedskirt.

While I see your point about rugs grounding a room, kids' rooms get visually busy very easily with all of their paranephilia, so I'd skip it, unless there is some carpet stain you wish to hide. I usually am not a fan of wall-to-wall carpeting, but I really like what you have in their room. It adds a lot of textual interest that goes well with what you already have. I also second Les' suggestion to add a fitted sheet on the boxsprings. Great idea and cute room!

I actually like it with the rug...sort of unites the beds and dresser with some softness where everything else is square, including the pattern on the bedspreads. I think a rug there would actually be more inviting to sit and play on. But because the orange is so bold and plain, I don't think I'd put a solid blue, maybe a blue with a beige outer stripe. Nothing too busy, just a little less plain than the solid blue. Or a beige with a blue or orange outer stripe?

This room looks great! I know they aren't usually featured in any design mags but what about one of the rugs that are meant for playing? I've seen them with road designs on them so they can run their cars etc on them. Not sure how old your boys are but that might be fun for them. On another note, I love your MBR. Could you please tell me where you got your bedding and wall lamps?

Chestnut, the bedding is from Pottery Barn. Got it a little over a year ago. And the lamps are from Home Depot, believe it or not. Have no idea if they still have them. I did replace the shades because I didn't like the ones that came with them.
