Why don't you post some pics of your house here? There are some wonderful people here that would offer suggestions. All computer monitors are not the same so you would not get a true color anyway. If you look at paint chips online, they look nothing like when you pick them up at the paint store and take them home. People here could maybe lead you in the right direction, though.

If you post your pictures then I can do the Sherwin Williams or Benjamin Moore for you, no problem.

Just make sure you provide a good picture that is clear and with a good view of the property. The websites also have photo size requirements so the pic needs to be large (as in resolution) so I can properly adjust the size in Photoshop first.

If you want to provide some color names, that would be great too!

I got to thinking, if you are tech challenged you may not know how to post pictures either. So if you'd prefer to email them to me with the list of colors you're considering, I'll be happy to post the after shots here.

Storklady - you might want to go to the various paint stores in your area and pick up brochures of their exterior paint color recommendations. Sherwin Williams has several brochures.

Picking exterior paint colors is tricky because a color that looks great inside the house looks much lighter outside.

Drive around and see what appeals to you on other houses.

As graywings suggest, drive around and see what appeals to you on other houses. If the owners happen to be outside, don't be shy, stop and ask what color they used. If you do not live on their street (Most of us do like to keep our individuality), I am sure they will be glad to help. A neighbor of mine did this when she painted her house.

I'd help some more now but am smack in the middle of tax season so don't get much play time. :/ There are lots of talented peeps here that can help you out! Can't emphasize enough a good, clear bright photo. (kelly if storklady is still in the same home, please feel free to borrow one of my photos as your launch point, they're bright and clear.)

Just keep in mind as mentioned this is more a way to rule out what you don't care for or what doesn't look so great. You'll not be able to ever see a "true" version of any specific color because PC video cards & monitors are going to change it too much. But if someone does a sage green that you like, that steers you straight to those swatches from paint stores. And if you dislike anything with gray undertones, you know to avoid those swatches at stores. Also, do drive around and ask! I've done it for both siding and front door colors. Most people are a) flattered and b) more than willing to chat with someone who admires their home. :) A house a couple blocks over has the most stunning red door, different than any I've ever seen. I had to ask. One day I saw the woman outside so stopped. She was so pleased someone admired it and was happy to talk about it. Because they did something really different, it was car paint! She said it was "Corvette red". Really is unique & very rich looking, so you never know what kind of tips you'll get! :)

Storklady, I can't photoshop but when you find someone I was going to suggest they try painting the entire larger area of the house (body and trim) a darker color and the entrance portion a lighter color. Maybe add a fun color on the door too. I'd like to see if the darker color would make that area recede a bit and balance with the front a little better.

storklady, a thought occurred to me. If it's the same house, sure hope my memory jog didn't cause you to feel funny or anything asking for help again. Won't tell you how many years some of my own bigger 'permanent' choices have taken. With cost and time involved, it can be daunting knowing we need to get it right the first time, often a recipe for freezing up. Most everyone here has BTDT & definitely gets that dilemma. :) And maybe none of them appealed to you, nothing wrong with that either! (That was a bad time for me anyway, caregiving for my late mom, burned out & had to keep going. It was a fun break to come here but my head wasn't on straight.) Someone lending a hand now has a fresh perspective, probably much more clear-headed, and that will really benefit you. So I'm excited to see some fresh ideas. :)
