Kitchen Aid or GE Profile appliance opinions needed
Comments (26)We have the KA CD 25 sq ft. side by side ref. It has performed very well except that the icemaker periodically will stop working. The fill tube that comes from the top of the freezer will freeze up, stopping the flow of water. I give it a squeeze with the pliers (it is a rubber tube) and it starts working again. Have had 2 service calls for this problem in 2 years. Too many for a $2100.00 ref. Other that that it is fine. Maintains temp fine, shelf space is great, etc. We have GE monogram rangetop and oven. It looks like the burners on the GE Cafe line are similar to the monogram burners, but the output on the Cafe line is less. I don't know about profile. A couple of the profile ovens seem to have the same specs as Monogram, but cost less. Or at least that was the case 2 years ago when I built the house. My opinion is that either brand will be fine. Buy the specs and the style you like and enjoy....See MoreYour opinion needed: look/feel of white vs stainless appliances
Comments (42)Wow, love that sink. It was just waiting for you! I'm glad you decided on the stainless. I just don't think white would look right with that sink! Plus, I think it's hard to get white cabinets to look good with white appliances. Slight variances in whites can make the appliance have a yellow cast. Especially those white plastic handles. As far as cleaning stainless, I've found that some of the cleaners they tell you to use to clean stainless make them harder to keep clean than just windex. Some of the "stainless" cleaners leave a greasy residue that attracts dust. I have a Kitchen Aid fridge with stainless panels and they are no problem at all to keep clean. My stove and DW are also stainless and I just wipe them off when I wipe off the counters. Can't wait to see your glass knobs. Please post some pictures as you get things installed. I'm sure it's going to be beautiful....See MoreWhite cabinets and white or black appliances? Pics please!
Comments (3)I was originally thinking the same thing, but I"ve seen both schemes on this site, and think they look really nice. Here is one kitchen I particularly love: http://finishedkitchens.blogspot.com/2008/01/hoffmans-kitchen.html It has convinced me to put a white fridge in my soon-to-be white kitchen. Someone also posted their galley kitchen that had an old-school white range and a black fridge with a mix of black and white(marble) counters. It looked really nice and not at all schizophrenic like it sounds. I had it as my desktop background for a while. Don't have the link anymore though. Maybe whoever that is will respond here. Here is a link that might be useful: Hoffman's kitchen...See MoreInterested in opinions on Wolf/SZ Grand Kitchen Event Rebate
Comments (4)I'd probably go with the $1,000 rebate since your units are so new and the likelihood of your needing service beyond the initial service period is relatively low, especially since you get an extra year on top of the standard warranty if you use a certified installer. I love the SZ counter oven and considering getting one myself when we remodel our kitchen! Definitely go with the certified installer, even if it costs a little more to install! We have a 30" Wolf DF range that we purchased on 2/19/2007 and a 30" SZ fridge we purchased on 3/15/2016. To date we've needed no warranty service on the fridge and the only repairs we've had performed on our range fell well outside the warranty period. The heating element in our oven failed last fall and over the years we've replaced two burners on our stove top. That said, I was recently offered a similar deal on the purchase of two SZ designer series under counter units that I'm installing in a coffee bar and a wet bar. I chose to go with the additional warranty to get me 6 years of bumper-to-bumper coverage through SZ. My reasoning is that these are built-in appliances and from reading past Houzz discussions, under counter units no matter the brand (i.e., SZ, Perlick, ULine, etc.) all appear to suffer from failure/repairs more often than a range/full-size fridge. Also, these under counter units are the only built-in appliances that I'll have in my house until I remodel my kitchen. I can tell you that overall the support I've received to date from Wolf/SZ even beyond the original warranty period has been nothing short of AMAZING!! In fact I just called them yesterday when my fridge started making a crazy loud noise. The person who answered my call was able to quickly offer some trouble-shooting tips. We discovered that a plastic bag may have been blocking something in the freezer vent and as soon as I removed the offending item the noise immediately went away. :-) Hope that helps!...See Morejan_in_wisconsin
