Painting Oak Cabinets to Cover Grain

Hello. I am wanting to paint my builder basic oak cabinets black and want them to have a smooth finish like that of painted maple, etc. I just don't want the grain to show.

I went to Home Depot and asked what I could do. The told me that all I had to do was use their new Behr product (primer + paint in one). I specifically asked him if this would conceal the grain and was assured, without a doubt, that it would. I bought a tester size and decided to try it on one cabinet door in my laundry room. After three coats, the grain still shows through.

What product can I use to cover the grain and give me that nice smooth finish? I have heard people suggest Wunderfil and some FPE Brushing Putty.

Any suggestions, advice, experiences?
