Where should I put my pendants and how many? pics

We are working with the electrician to figure out lighting. He said he would probably put 3 pendant lights over the island and 2 over the main sink raised bar area. Is that too much going on? Im thinking maybe 1 pendant over the main sink area or none. Or maybe one that branches out into two? And the island is about 9ft long, is 3 ok there?

Whether you use 2 or 3 over the island would depend on the size of the fixtures, but likely 3. I don't know that I'd do any over the sink, because it would be a mishmash of a view from the great room...So I'd either stick to recessed cans there, or maybe 1 semi-flush fixture...And make sure it's a larger scale than the pendants, so doesn't look too wimpy by itself. (I can add those to your renderings we've worked on when you get an idea of what you'd like to see.)

I was going to write in exactly what rhome suggested. I would do a larger semi flush over the main sink area and 3 over the island. I personally am sick of can lights (have them now) and plan on semi flush and pendants in my new kitchen with under the cabinet lighting plus I'll have the lighting over my cooktop from the hood.

How Many Feeders and Where Should I Put Them? Put out as many feeders as you are willing and, most importantly, are able to maintain. (It is even better if you also garden for hummingbirds.) Having more feeders/plants may help lessen the competition amongst hummingbirds, especially if the feeders are hung out of sight from one another (and the gardens are well-spaced). You may want to check this by thinking like a hummingbird... You may not be able to see both feeders from inside your house, but a highly territorial hummingbird will find the perch outside that overlooks both! Experiment with feeder locations; once a hummingbird has discovered that a feeder is a reliable source of food, it will remember exactly where that feeder is. Go ahead and hang a feeder right up close to your house or even on a window. (Just be aware of the potential for window collisions on unprotected, reflective glass and with screened porches and other large screened-in structures.) Hummingbirds are rather fearless, and don't mind being observed close at hand if you don't make any sudden moves. HELP arranging my bedroom! Should I put my bed in front of the window?

Hi everyone! Thank you so much again for your help and guidance. I thought I should pop in here for a quick update (I just hate when people post a question and never update their resolution!). It took almost 2 years but I'm finally at a good place with the bedroom decor. We ended up putting the bed up against the window because of symmetry and it also opened up a big space at the foot of the bed where we can play with our dog. We also ended up with a queen bed instead of a king. We don't mind the bed in front of the window at all. The bed has a wire headframe and barely blocks the light. We just need to hang some pictures or paintings and I think I can call the bedroom done! Thank you again for all of your wonderful suggestions and advice!

The first thing that strikes me is that your curtain rod is too short which is why you have to push the curtains to the side which kills the vibe in this room. Get longer rods and linen-type curtains that are fairly similar to the wall color which will give the room warmth without looking busy. Please make sure that your area rug is as large as possible because that will make this room look fabulous. Little bitty rugs do not. I would choose an Oriental rug in warm colors because it will hide little accidents, at least until you can address them. I would definitely get a sofa, so great for cuddling with your husband and kids. I would place it in front of the window for good lighting for reading but also because it gives you the best sight lines into other areas of your home. Instead of a coffee table consider a large ottoman with a lid so that you have plenty of storage space. Please don't buy a brown or black leather couch. They look dated and are so difficult to decorate around. Try beige or caramel, with two chairs in contrasting colors, perhaps a nice blue or green, colors that will be in the carpet hopefully. You can also use the carpet colors to choose pillows for your soft furniture. Find some nice pictures to put on the walls, a large green plant, a bookcase or two (books are a must in a room) and side tables for lamps. By now your room will look gorgeous and be pretty well furnished and, most important of all, will be comfortable and fun to be in.

Window treatments - another decision! Are you firmly set on drapes? Seems they’d have to be window sill length not floor length because of radiator under the window. Agree drapes will take floor space if they’re floor length & they also take wall space as need to extend past windows to stack fully off window when open. Have you considered shades of some kind instead of drapes? I cannot suggest type without knowing need for privacy, view from window, framing around window (casement, sill etc). There are so many options for mounting them, inside / outside, ceiling / window top height etc as well as types - Roman shades, cellular shades. Blinds, silhouettes withCordless raise / lower mechanism etc. From your drawing, appears your window is @ 7 feet long so drapes would fill the bit of wall space on either side of window. Just something to think about which might give more furniture options if floor & aerial space drapes would fill is freed up.

rhome - You're awesome! When I come up with something for the lights, I will surely let you know. Semi- flush? I hadnt thought about that. I was definitely worried about a jumbled pendant view from the great room, but a semi flush would solve that.

remodelfla - Looks like I'll stick with 3 over the island. We plan to do undercabinet lighting and cans as well. Why do you hate cans?

The electrician also recommended cans all the way around the kitchen like in a U shape around the island. Is that ok?

Have you seen redroze's kitchen? I'm not sure how long her island is, but it's pretty long. She has two good-sized and spectacular pendants.

Have you picked out your pendants? Share those and then you'll get a better answer for how many you should have. I think I've been permanently swayed by redroze's space, because as I was reading your initial note I was thinking "two over island, none over sink."

It's so fun to see your plan again! I love your layout.

Of course cans are fine... most people have them and I've lived with them for a long time. Maybe that' why I don't want them. That, and I think I can approach my lighting needs in a more decorative way.

I would vote for pendants over the island and thats it.

Recessed for general lighting.

Too much hanging from the ceiling and it will start to look like Starbucks.

Whatever you chose, switch the cans/ over the sink/ and pendants all separately if you can, and put the pendants and cans on dimmers.
