Need some input on my bathroom design

We are in the process of redoing our half bathroom. So far, we have painted our wood trim white (BM White Dove)and replaced the vinyl floor with tile,. We also had this cabinet:

that I stained to look like this:

With this countertop:

So, my dilemma is that we were planning on putting beadboard wainscotting up painted in the White Dove and now I am afraid the contrast is going to be too much against the dark cabinet and not look right. I am always famous for redoing everything because I am unhappy with it and just want to make sure that this will look ok.

What are your thoughts? Do you think the whiteboard will look ok with the dark vanity?

I think it will look perfect. Both the black and white pick up tones in your counter.it will. Look classic and pretty . . . .great job!

I also think that it looks WONDERFUL. The vanity --wow how outstanding......it DOES look perfect.
I suppose if you want to save yourself the trouble of redoing, could you get some bead board and just prop it up to the vanity? I think that beadboard will look great, but quite possibly you might think why bother. ,,,

Here's my two cents - as a realtor and a homeowner- based on the layout drawing: I think the two sinks are not a good idea. A key reason for two sinks is for two people to be able to get ready at the same time but this layout prohibits two people using sinks at the same time. I'm worried buyers will get too wrapped up in the awkwardness of it. The obvious thing would be put two sinks on the long vanity, even if they are close together. Also, I've seen people hang oval mirrors over a window both for practicality and privacy. I second the idea of glass walls - it opens the space and makes it look more modern. Hope this helps.

I agree with sweeby and suero: move the door over. Then use the old doorway space to expand the shower size and de-awkwardize the sink. In my last house I had brass tub fixtures and found replacements for the jet covers at a local plumbing supply place. I just took one of them off and brought it in and their guy that repairs people's whirlpool tubs had a stash of spares in the back. Another option is to have them replated (google can help you find some mail-in services). Since you're selling soon, you need to be careful not to spend too much. I'd keep the tub and just change the fixtures and tile/surround to update. What's on the outside of your house? Is resizing the window a viable (and affordable) option?

I have black tiles everywhere in my master bath. It's not a shiny tile, but while lint isn't a problem (at least not with the tp I use), it does show water marks. If you have black tile in the shower area, make sure you clean it regularly or else it gets a cloudy haze from soap scum. If I had to do it over again, I wouldn't get a solid back tile again. I'd probably do something in the medium gray family.

Pocket door for sure, is this the only bathroom in the house? I would never have a bathroom with 2 access points so if the only bathroom I would close off the bedroom access and live with the fact there is no ensuite . If this is an ensuite close off the hall entry .Then your layout looks fine. Good lighting is the next thing to address and I like lots of good lighting in a bathroom that includes over head pots and a couple of over the mirror Halogen 150 watt or the equivilant LED fixtures the pots on one switch the over the mirrors on another.This is one of my favorite fixtures for above mirror it is called Oxygen halogen is very afforadable and I think Lowes carries it in the US.I like your idea of the dark floor and shower floor just remember the shower tile needs to be smaller than the floor tile so make sure the tile you choose comes in the 2 sizes.I love the inspiration pic.

What color did you stain your vanity? What brand? It looks great!

Thanks! I think I am just having a little case of cold feet and needed a little push to go forward. We cut and propped the beadboard up against the vanity and counter and it looks nice!

klf78- The stain is by General Finishes in Java. I saw it on the kitchen forum last year or so(Celtic Moon did her kitchen cabs. It was very easy to do!

You have just inspired me Maxsam!! your before is exactly the same as my ensuite bathroom vanity and I love love love your after......the online tutorial link you provided was great, how long did it take you to complete the project with the cabinet staining?

I did three coats of the stain plus one coat of poly by GF in satin. It says to wait 6 hours between coats, so took a few days, but the actual staining was accomplished in 20 minute sessions.
I applied my stain with a foam brush and removed it with an old t-shirt I cut up in pieces. Those two things worked perfectly. You're just applying the stain and wiping it level, not c0mpletely off (wiping with the grain of the wood).
If you have a Woodcraft store near you, they sell General Finishes, otherwise the GF website has info on where they sell their product.

I think it will look very pretty. Love the re-stained cabinet! You did an awesome job. I might suggest you use anaglypta wallpaper in beadboard. Much easier to install and cut than paneled beadboard.
