I am splotching a (Sherwin Wm's mixed) sample of F&B's French Grey, right now in my entry. It looks good but I need more light and maybe a bit of sunshine tomorrow to see for sure. I wanted something more grey or more brown, but keep striking out with this not-too-light entry. RH's Flax looks amazing, but may be too dark. One of my top contenders was F&B Mouse's Back. I was sold on that, but my DD keeps saying it's too much like the Baby Turtle in the LR and the Northampton Putty in the DR, both of which are adjoining the entry. However, I MUST show you guys a blog where they painted the bottom cabinets in the Mouse's Back! I wondered if that is a look that might work for Tammy? I just posted this response over on kitchens. Thought I'd copy/paste it in there too. I am working on something rather crazy right now. I went to carry the bin drawer back into the garage after taking the pic with the new paint. A paint pro over on the paint forum brought up a great point about oil matte being difficult to clean and he said it can burnish and yellow. This is going to be a hard working piece. Probably the hardest working piece in the kitchen. SO I began thinking.... if I don't think the wood is "pretty" enough... why not try to make it prettier. I made our bath vanity out of a cheap kitchen island off craigslist by faux painting, staining, and playing with such a basic inexpensive BB top. So I looked in the cab and found a poly stain in a brown I had used on our outdoor cabs. I almost dry brushed it, wiped it off, rubbed it with my hands... you name it, I did it. Anyway, please tell me if it looks ridiculous or kinda good. I figure... I have the blue undertones, but warmer, and it's cleanable. Keep in mind it's just my initial "play" and I didn't perfect it... just wanted to see what it would look like. I may start a new thread with it so people will be more apt to look at it.

I've never worked with F&B paints -- I have the paint deck (not really -- a pamphlet, maybe?) but there isn't a dealer in our state and I've been able to get what I want with other paints so ... that's my disclosure. But I totally know what you mean about having a vanilla house and wanting to give it character. Ours is a 1997 b-i-g house in a planned community -- love the neighborhood, the schools, and have made the house as "ours" as it can be. We had our textured walls smoothcoated: drywallers did it and it looks and feels like plaster because that's essentially what it is -- three coats of thin compound just put atop the textured finish. No sanding. Not messy. Just right. We also had miles of trim put up -- crown, skirting, picture frame, casing on some doors / windows (but not all). Just those have made a WORLD of difference! Everyone's lighting is different but I think the color you want for your walls is a really creamy white, with a lot of yellow in it. If you want and can afford to work with F&B then that's super -- more than half the battle is done. But you can also look at less expensive and perhaps more readily available lines. I'm keen on both Benjamin Moore and Pratt & Lambert. The trim throughout our house is BM's Calming Cream, which on the chip looks like a pale yellow but up everywhere it's the creamiest, dreamiest white. Love it and would use it again in a heartbeat. Calming Cream I know the color you like for your cabs, but have you also looked at BM's Paris Rain? Some of the pics of it online make it look rather green but in my real life (given the lighting conditions in this part of the continent) it is a beautiful, subtle grey-green, or green-grey. I have one color down, Cheyenne Green, on our mantle. I love it. I just love it. When I describe it I say "sludge green" and that's just right. It's really earthy, subtle. Perfect. Paris Rain Cheyenne Green For your trim could you go one or two shades darker than your wall color? I'll have to check my sample decks later to see if I can find a color, but I love that almost-taupe color with a creamy wall, like maybe midway between the cabinet green and the wall, but with no green in it. You're going to have so much fun!

Thing the about the encyclopedia website is their data is not good. Their calculations start with RGB values that they snag from wherever. They don't measure the colors to industry standards. And it just snowballs from there with regard to F&B. Because F&B notoriously has skewed digital swatches. For the longest time their collateral (chips) weren't great either. But they switched to a company called CCI for some if not all of their collateral so it is markedly improved - especially the brochures. There isn't an "official" RGB value for any color. Because RGB values are just instructions that tell devices how much red, green and blue to light up to make a digital representation of a color. However.... there is such a thing as good/better/best RGB values. F&B website swatch RGB values appears to be marginally good. So if that's where encyclo is getting RGB values to start with, the results you get there for F&B "matches" is going to be one of the more tragically incorrect results. Last but not least, we can reduce entire color collections down to a spreadsheet. There is special software/apps that will show you where collections have "holes" in color space. Those holes are -often- there for a reason; like their particular set of ingredients (base/colorants) can't produce the colors in the "hole". If you're a paint company and don't want to compete with the typical larger manufacturers, you'd look at those holes and fill them. When you do that, it makes it harder to mix a match to your color if you don't have the same ingredients. Not saying F&B or Joanna Gaines does that. I'm just saying that's what I would do if I was selling paint.
