slide in range backsplash

we're doing a complete kitchen remodel. new cabinets, counters, backsplash.

we want to go with a GE Profile slide in range. it is cheaper than the GE cafe. it has a 2.5" tall protrusion at the back which I believe is the vent for the oven.

so when doing the backsplash -- do I install it all the way down to the counter top?. or do I stop at the top of the oven vent?

the installation instructions say 0" between the back of the range and the back wall. a backsplash tile will create a 1/4" step from the wall to the face of the tile. if the tile runs behind the range vent, it will prevent the range from sliding all the way back?? I think??

so -- will that make the range protrude out past the front of the cabinets/counter by 1/4"

trying to cut the backsplash to match the contour of the range vent is not going to happen. I also think it would look like shT.

but I don't want the range sticking out past the cabinets more than its supposed to.

any thoughts?
