wow.... I am very surprised to hear this or find this info out... only because of recently wanting to buy more seeds and didn't know if the seeds I had were still viable. Well, I purchased these seeds in 9/07 and still had left over but no name of vendor on them... so I started digging. I am impeccable with my receipts, and was able to track down old invoice..... WHICH low and behold was DAN PIERCE.... In my experience (back then) I DID (obviously) recieve my seeds, and planted and grew some.(so they weren't "duds") and even recieved EXTRA gifted seeds... uploaded pic... and the original invoice from paypal... We purchased a Samsung French door refrigerator - Model RF24FSEDBSR/AA - in November 2014 (now about 2.75 years old), and have had, along with evidently countless others, problems with the ice maker, which quit working just after the one year warranty period was over ... soft ice cubes, water and crushed ice build-up in the chute, dripping water, and massive ice build-up in the back of the unit that evidently blocked the fan and eventually burned out the motor. The first appliance repair company called would not service a Samsung refrigerator (wonder why); the second came out three times ... went through all of the Samsung "service bulletins" in regard to this issue and eventually said they would not continue trying to fix it and to call Samsung (we paid for one service call with this company, the other two were gratis). Samsung "Support" set up an appointment with one of their locally contracted appliance repair companies - we paid for the service call and their assessment was that we needed a new fan/motor. On the next service call he brought and installed the new part. We paid for the part, something like $140. Shortly after the "repair", the unit again began to fail and we called again (after cleaning out the ice build-up several times). The part was guaranteed for three months, but we did not realize this and called again just after the three month period. The solution - again - to replace the fan/motor in the ice maker. We paid again for the part, and the company kindly did not charge us this time for the service call. Fast forward two months, and the ice maker unit is failing AGAIN - we've melted out the ice build-up two or three times in the last six or seven weeks. Over the last few days, a new issue - the "Twin Cooling" unit in the back of the refrigerator has failed - ice build up in the "Twin Cooling" unit, the fan died, and the refrigerator now keeps a temperature of around 50 degrees. The drawer and the freezer are still maintaining a safe temperature, so we are using those alone while we search for another refrigerator; given that we've paid upwards of $500 for repairs that did not work we are not willing to sink more money into repairs. I've read that they have since improved the ice maker, but have made no move to my knowledge to recall or replace defective models or parts. Needless to say, we are not seeking to replace this refrigerator, or any other appliance, with a Samsung model.

As far as the trash folks are concerned, I tend to agree with lindsey_ca. Granted, the job used to be very smelly and physical, however, talking to several people who know the pay, they are very well paid for the job. Some do an outstanding job and of course some should be fired. I recall the days of 3-4 men manning a a truck. Today, with automation, it's often just one. But some on the older trucks really have to hustle while the new ones drive, push a button, watch the monitor and move on. Not far from a postal carrier IMO. Paper carriers are close to my heart. I carried papers about 20-25 years ago. It was for the big "business" paper which shall remain unnamed. I will say I enjoyed the job. I did it for probably a year and a half and it was a nice second income. Especially on the nice summer days it was very pleasant to be out at 4 or 5am cruising around when it's quiet, peaceful and refreshing. Turn up the radio a bit and off you go. Now of course, rain, snow and the like are the problem days. And in fairness to the carriers, it's not always the carriers' fault when the papers are late. I remember more than once when the plane was late arriving so we didn't have the papers to deliver. So we had to sit and wait for sometimes 3 hours or more and occasionally the paper would be canceled for that day. Many times the carriers lost on that. But the good part was I had the "bad" route. Nobody wanted it because it was so much driving. IIRC it was somewhere around 150-200 papers over 50-55 miles. Nobody wanted to drive that much with their new cars. Well I had a beater and I did all maintenance myself so I made out well on the mileage allowance. Things have changed though. I talked to a carrier for one of the big papers in town and the pay hasn't increased much from when I carried! AND to top it off, they make the carriers pay for the rubber bands and the plastic bags! (For this paper anyway) That really irritated me when I heard that. This explains the higher turnover rate. FWIW I got a couple tips as a carrier and I was the only one I knew of who did. I think it was $5 each. I was a bit surprised but then when I considered the snobs that got this paper wouldn't tip like the ones who got the daily local paper. The ones who tipped me sent it to the company specifying it was for me. That was very flattering. Carriers also put up with one other problem. The ones who keep calling and complaining for the purpose of getting their subscription extended. I had one person who kept saying they had a wet paper and when I delivered in wet weather I would double bag the papers. Paper in the bag, fold the bag over and the open end went in first into the second bag. No way could it get wet, but the complainers kept trying. The boss finally went out and followed me one day and checked the paper. They canceled the customer! :D When I got the paper and got good service I'd tip the carrier $5-$10 about every three months. Percentage-wise, that's pretty good. I was paying 75 per week for the Sunday only paper. But I did the several-times-a-year tip because of turnover. I didn't think it was fair to essentially penalize a new carrier doing a good job because the prior carrier got tipped at the holidays. And I would try to catch them in the morning. I'm usually up early on Sundays so it wasn't a problem. I would prefer to see people tip more frequently rather than at the holidays. A lot of people get jobs for the holiday season and could benefit from the generosity at the time and others are essentially doing the hard work all year long.

I agree. When I didn't have a freezer, I had a roommate who would eat everything up before we got tired of it. Freezers, especially ones that don't self defrost or top of the line ones that have evaporators rather than defrosting, are fantastic. Vacuum sealers help keep the food nice (less water migration) longer, especially when there's an evaporator. There are some dishes that still have to be engineered. Any meat/poultry that has a goopy sauce freezes better more towards the naked, with the sauce frozen separately, or made fresh the day of heating. Some proteins that were meant originally to be sauce free, heat after freezing better with a sauce added. This is a rewarming issue, rather than a freezer issue, however, so the same could be said for your batch cooking in general. Change it up and add a sauce and it may warm up better and will taste different. Cooked proteins freeze well, especially when vacuum sealed, or wrapped well in freezer paper. Less well when just shoved in a zipper bag. Cheese freezes very well, as do most breads and grains. Soup freezes well. Stew freezes, but the vegetables go mushy, so if you're making a big pot of stew, you can pull the meat and some juice out when the meat is cooked but not fully tender yet, before you put in the vegetables that are meant to be seen (not part of the gravy), and freeze that. Finish it cooking after you thaw and add vegetables then. As to keeping batch cooking going all week, rather than freezing, plan ahead what it's going to be. Summer is easier because you can do cold as well as hot. So a couple of chickens can be roast chicken one night, chicken parts with a sauce the next night, chicken salad the night after that, and the scraps can be thrown into an omelette. But you still have to do some work. If you want it to be just grab and go, perhaps vary the condiments, and accompaniments, but that's about all you can do on the fly.
