How to store a lot of garlic

I bought one of those three-pound bags of California garlic at Costco. It's great to have so much, and not from China! But there are only two of us. Shall I keep some in the refrigerator? I know garlic is supposed to have air circulation. If I keep some in my basement, how should I do that? The basement will get very cold in winter (unexpected consequence of putting in more efficient heating last year). I could keep some there, but in what?
