As someone who sold furniture for years, and also worked in the merchandising dept. for years before THAT, I can offer some advice.
I always LOVED Vaughn Bassett. Their furniture, while not the most expensive, always seemed very solid to me. They are a great brand to deal with, they never changed reps ONCE in all my years, and really kept their service "in the family" (our rep's name was Chris Bassett) He was still the rep years later, I saw him when I was selling furniture at a different store!
When I worked in the merch. dept, I have to say they did get their fair share of service requests, parts orders, etc. But not NEARLY on the scope as other manufacturers.

Overall, I myself would be VERY happy to have their furniture in my home. I mean it's not Thomasville solid oak, but it doesn't require a second mortgage either ;-)

Also, you have to love "made in the usa!"

I ordered a VB chest of drawers from local furniture store this past spring. I too thought it was all made in USA, but I think some of it is now made in Viet Nam. When it came, they called me up to look at it before delivery....someone at the factory had put a big staple through one side. I sent it back and got a Kincaid chest. When comparing the VB chest and the Kincaid chest, there was no comparison. The VB compared very poorly in construction and finish (rough, bubbly) and in my mind, the devil is in the details, and the details were bad. Just my own experience.

while I cannot address specific quality concerns, I can tell you that Vaughn-Bassett makes 95% of their furniture in the U.S. (As described on their website, which is linked above).

I've spend the past 6 weeks looking for furniture too and was considering a Vaughn Bassett set. I didn't end up buying it but I saw several pieces in real life that seemed okay for the price. I was told by someone in the biz over on the Furniture forum that it would probably rate a 4 on a scale from 1-10. With 4 being just the beginning of the better quality.

I ended up with a Home Elegance set that I "think" is similar in quality to VB. The finish is beautiful and it seems decent enough for the price. You get what you pay for in furniture.

Thanks for your input lindybarts. I assume you liked the Home Elegance set better, since that's the one you purchased? You said the quality seemd to be the same as VB, was the price similar as well? I looked at their website and the furniture is very pretty, but it doesn't appear that they have any dealers near me.

Hi marrilyn, I have been dealing with a very picky daughter who wanted a certain style and finish and I didn't see one that fit all her criteria on VB. I wanted her to be happy with it since I'm not changing her furniture again. It's tough to find something nice in the price range I was looking though. I "think" this will hold up for the next 7-8 years. Yes, I'd say pretty similar quality on both VB and Home Elegance. Are you looking for something specific? I've researched a ton of "middle of the road" furniture.

Well, I am looking for furniture for our small sized master bedroom. We want a bed queen sized bed with a headboard and footboard, but the headboard has to bed smaller, like 50 inches or less high. So many of today's headboards are extremely tall, and we have a widow behind our bed that we don't want covered up or mostly covered up.

Also because of the small size of the room I need a dresser that is only 18-20 inches wide. And I would love a smaller size armoire/door chest that we could put the TV in.

The Vaughan Bassett Barnburner 13 seems to fit all these criteria.

I do hope to move some day, so I don't really consider this my "ultimate" bedroom furniture, but I would like it to last and then be able to be moved to a guest room, but perhaps I'm being too optimistic at this price point. :)

I could go up somewhat in price, but find when I do that, I can't find the right size pieces. Although I could go up somewhat in price, I'm not able to do the high end, all solid wood type price.

Is the Barnburner 13 a sleigh bed? I think I've seen it. How about Bassett furniture? This one is low profile but maybe a bit more contemporary than the Barnburner. It's called the 5th Avenue Bed. It also comes in a lighter finish and you can get it without the leather headboard.

Yes, the one I am looking at is a sleigh bed. That is a nice bed you posted, my husband would love the leather upholstered headboard. I assume that's Basset? (Is that different from Vaughan bassett?)

My husband and I bought our VB bedroom suite 19 years ago when we first married. I love it. It's great quality and has traveled all over the US and even overseas to England. It still looks like the day we bought.People ask us all the time if it's new. There are no dings, chips or scratches on the wood. Very happy with it , this summer I think I'm going to change out the hardware. Good luck with your purchase.

I have purchased some Vaughn bassett furniture over the last few years. We have a couple of beds from their cottage collection for our children. We also have a dresser.

We also have a king sized bed from their American farmhouse collection. We have been married 20 years- this is the first time we have actually purchased bedroom furniture ( other than mattresses!) We have a lot of antiques. In our new home we were able to use a king sized bed so we finally bought something new!

We have this bed in black.

As far as quality - I am sure it will suffice for as long as we need it. We have young children - we need sturdy but not museum quality. VB seems just about right.

We just purchased a used bedroom set from the VB farmhouse collection series. It is in excellent condition and has a soft, rustic, simple elegance that is more beautiful than most new furniture. It is well made of solid wood and every time I look at it i am impressed with how it looks.

Of course, you can believe on Vaughan Bassett furniture and it has lots of items with the highest quality and different type of style according to the trends. Don't worry about quality and it has A1 in this section. Don't get irritated and make trust on it and go head to buy many furniture items for your loving home.

I recently picked up a used Vaughn Bassett dresser. They guy was asking a reasonable price, even for cheap furniture ($200), so I picked it up, but he claimed it was USA made and solid wood and said he paid $1,200 for it. Upon seeing it, I was very skeptical that it was solid wood, but I didn't inspect it too closely and it looked nice so I took it. Upon unloading it from my trailer when I got home, I noticed a "made in Vietnam" sticker on the back. Then when I was moving it, a little corner of the bottom edge of the side got nicked off and revealed particle board. It's not too surprising when companies use veneer over particle board to give the dresser a nice appearance, but what really got me was that the very bottom edge that goes against the floor was actually veneered with an end grain unfinished wood. So even someone trying to inspect the furniture for real wood could be fooled by checking underneath the dresser as they didn't want any part of the particle board showing. To me, that's deceptive, and if the guy really did pay $1,200 for this piece, he got ripped off. I get that you don't want particle board showing for a dresser, but people deserve to at least know what they're getting. I know I only bought a used piece of furniture and I didn't get ripped off, but that experience certainly left a bad taste in my mouth about a company that claims to be quality and USA made. I wouldn't trust them.
