Anyone opinions/input on quartz countertops?
Comments (39)I have Silestone in my current kitchen in a color that's a light blueish/white/gray with silvery reflective pieces in it. It's been absolutely bulletproof. I've done everything wrong... cut on it, put hot things on it, clean with whatever, DH's coffe maker had a leak underneath that I didnt' see and it had coffee underneath the coffee maker for who knows how long on it. It's been in for about 8 years and look exactly like it did when I had it installed. Now, with that being said, when I remodel our kitchen in our other house; I plan on all natural products (granite and marble). Not because of any deficiencies with the quartz; just because I've developed a love for the look and notion of natural stone. I also think I want a product with a lower sheen. The stones I prefer have wavy movement in them as opposed to "chunks". There are no quartz products that have that kind of movement. If it weren't for that; I'd get quartz again in a heartbeat. I really feel that if you go quartz; get one that you love for the beauty of the product itself; not for it's ability to mimic stone. It's like we're leaning toward the wood look porcelain tile for our entire living area. Not because I want to fool people into thinking we have wood in So Fla.; but just because we think the tile itself looks beautiful....See MoreQuartz countertops - difference in translucency between brands?
Comments (33)If you look at the warranty inforamtion on the manufacturer websites you will see the difference in how Zodiac treats the issue of resin pooling in contrast to Cambria. Zodiac states no spot will be more than the size of a quarter, I believe, and all spots must be confined to no more than a quarter of the slab for the slab to be considered first quality. Cambria's warranty states "color blotches are intended and designed into many colors to enhance the natural beauty...product will not be replaced due to these variations." Silestone does not address blotches at all in its warranty but does say color variances are not covered. I don't know if they would consider the splotches a color variance but I really have not heard of problems with this type of thing with Silestone, either. I think Cambria just decided they didn't want to deal with trying to solve the problem and so just "designed it in". Zodiac went the other way, and is trying to limit the problem, but can't guarantee there won't be any at all. So, if you like the blotches, go with Cambria, if you don't either be sure to view the slab first or don't go with Cambria, and make sure to check the warranty for this issue with whatever company you go with. I hope my Zodiac installation goes well on Monday. Sue...See MoreQuartz v Granite and ColorQuartz in particular
Comments (1)Haven't heard of that brand of quartz, we went with quartz because I really like more of a uniform look in my counters. Our store recommend going with Hanstone quartz because I am kind of a clean freak and am constantly wiping down the counters and cabinets. I also wanted it very durable because I really use my kitchen a lot. They said it was antimicrobial, didn't need a sealer and was easy to maintain? I am sure most of the quartz would have the same properties and probably many of the granite types....See MoreAnyone familar with PentalQuartz counter tops?
Comments (3)I have them. They are from a company called Vicostone and Pental just puts their name on it. Pental is originally a granite company out of Seattle and Portland but they've expanded into other markets in the last three years. Their quartz used to be called Chroma but they changed it to Pentalquartz when they expanded. It's made in Vietnam with Breton technology, so they are the same as Cambria, Silestone, Caesarstone, etc....See Morealley2007
