Anyone buy their quartz counters at Lowe's?
Comments (18)I just had a similar situation happen to me. Counter was cut 5/8 inch short and they offered me 10% off a backsplash. the counter is also uneven around the sink and there is a scratch on the island. After I declined the discount on the backsplash, and several exchanges with Lowe’s and the owner of the countertop company, they are providing me with a free backsplash and repairing the scratch. Nothing on the sink. Lowe’s will also give me a $200 credit. After doing an entire kitchen remodel with lowe’s and spending a ton of money I am very displeased with the end result and no one seems to care. Our vision was to tile all the way down to the counter and now that is not possible due to this error. Lowe’s has held the position of the fabricator that the 5/8 gap is necessary because my walls aren’t straight and done nothing to back me up. Doesn’t make sense. After consulting with an architect, with no self interest in this project, it is confirmed that walls are nit always straight and gaps should not be that big. Regretful of the choice to do counters through Lowe’s and would highly recommend looking elsewhere For anyone considering....See MoreAnyone familar with PentalQuartz counter tops?
Comments (3)I have them. They are from a company called Vicostone and Pental just puts their name on it. Pental is originally a granite company out of Seattle and Portland but they've expanded into other markets in the last three years. Their quartz used to be called Chroma but they changed it to Pentalquartz when they expanded. It's made in Vietnam with Breton technology, so they are the same as Cambria, Silestone, Caesarstone, etc....See Morehas anyone heard of U Quartz by UGM?
Comments (4)LP- no I did not. I even contacted u quartz and they never returned any calls or emails. My husband and I decided to go with Hanstone and it’s been nothing but wonderful! Definitely look into them....See MoreWhat brand — a soft white quartz?
Comments (39)Beth: There are several problems with your Hanstone link. First, even Cambria, the best in the business as far as I'm concerned, sells resin pooling as a feature, not a bug. This article seems to claim that resin pooling is exclusive to Chinese estone. It is not. Secondly, the article claims that estone is 93% quartz. It is by weight, which is irrelevant, not by volume which is the actual relevant measurement, 65/35%. Thirdly, under Inconsistent Material Quantities, the article claims ",,,and it can also make a more flexible countertop that can bend during transport." This is nonsense. When you alter a natural stone sink cutout, if you get close to the corners, a little tap and the stone will break where you want. Never, ever, try this with estone unless you want a cracked front rail because the material is so strong it won't break where you like. You can hear and feel the difference when you tap on them. It's so much stronger because it's 35% plastic. If anything, a more plastic (resin) countertop will be stronger and less likely to "bend during transport". Corian is full of plastic and it's stronger than any estone or natural stone. Some fabricators have thermoformed estone. Plastic is good. I can't imagine there is any more significant off gassing with Chinese estone. The article never supplies any ASTM tests to substantiate their claim. Slab thickness inconsistencies pervade the estone and natural stone industries, no matter the manufacturer or supplier. Resin pooling, false; 93% quartz, false; bending, false; off gassing, unsubstantiated; slab thickness, false. Hanstone better stop letting the salespeople write their technical articles....See MoreRelated Professionals
