Matelasse questions.
Comments (81)"I was thinking it was a matelassé but it says coverlet right on the front." A coverlet is simply any covering for the bed. A quilt is a coverlet. Matelasse is also a coverlet, but the term has to do with the decorative stitching of heavy fabric. Unlike a quilt, which has light padding in between the layers, matelasse has no padding. Instead it is the sewn pattern of the fabric that creates the look. Matelasse is a coverlet too, although lighter. Sorry for the brief description, but don't drive yourself crazy with the confusing terms. One has a layer of batting, one doesn't. A matelasse will not be as warm and can be used at the foot of the bed for decoration. Having seen the RL in person, it is a little warmer than the pic shows, but you have to be the best judge of whether it works or not. I also second waiting until the pillows get there and try both colors to get the whole picture....See MoreWhich bedding do you like for my MBR?
Comments (59)kmcg: Thanks for the recommendation for euroshams. I was thinking of checking out TM for the pillows. shee: No worries on hyjacking since we've been helping one another make our final choices. It's fun as we're going in different directions so when I shop, I'm always also mentally looking what works for you. I agree with Dee, the pickstitch quilt looked heavier--with that I don't think you'd need your velux. That would be my concern as well with one of the threads getting caught on something and breaking. The way it was used was more for a blanket and I've also seen it folded down at the bottom of the bed so matelasse may be better option. I must've overlooked the olive matelasse from Kohl's that kmcg recommended for you. As I had mentioned on your thread, I have two very different matelasses in my home: mine is very soft and I intend to keep using with the new bedding. It's the perfect weight for summer and something my DH can use without tossing all the covers on top of me because they are too hot! I find I want the thicker, lighter and snuggly feel of the comforter for winter, though. My plan is to pull down the comorter in summer and and just sleep with the sheet/matelasse (DH usually only wants the sheet, on all but hottest days, I like both) and use the comforter and matelasse in winter (possibly a down blanket also--did I mention I like to be warm? Menapause and hot flashes have not affected me yet). The organic matelasse one I bought for my DD from The Company Store is very heavy, stiff; but I bought it as it was minimally processed and my DD had been having problems with eczema. I keep it as a set of travel bedding which she sometimes brings when we stay in hotels as she had been having reactions to the hotel bedding--now problem is a bit less. scanmike: Thank you for sharing your experience with the linen/blend. It does have a different look/feel to it. I like the juxtaposition of the elegant/sophisticated print with the more rustic look of the linen. I'll be sure to post pics when they arrive. Comments (146)Bumble - Thanks for posting photos of your room. It's very pretty! I love the red and white bedding and those plates. Hey Rrs! I had a bunch of different bedroom threads over the last few weeks so I'll recap on everything... I kept the last red coverlet. Haven't found a mirror or any art. I moved my nightstand to DH's side and have a round table on mine. Santa is bringing me a burlap tablecloth so I'm excited about that. I still need to get a glass top. Since I lost my storage, I bought a neat basket for under the bed but getting organized seems to be a bit challenging for me. I'll be tackling that head on during the new year. I'm going to paint the room SW Dromedary Camel probably in a few months. No change with curtains. I'm leaning towards something brown and machine washable but I should probably paint first. I now have a larger floral pillow to replace the one that's on the bed but I'd like to get a fluffier insert. Feather maybe? The smaller pillow that was on the bed in the photos above now sits on the web chair in the corner of the room. I was considering moving the chair out and getting a bench for in front of the window but I'm thinking it will take up too much space. I need to do a mock up with something. I'm not sure if I talked about the bathroom in this thread but, just to recap in one spot, I'm still planning on using the floral fabric for the window valance. The shower curtain is on hold until more of the original fabric comes in. So the floral fabric will be on the valance part and the body will be a smaller houndstooth. I decided not to use that calico corner plaid or the one from house fabrics. Both I think would compete too much with the floral and be too busy for me. Didn't paint the bathroom vanity or walls yet. See the original houndstooth plaid pillows with buttons from the inspiration pic? I accidently stumbled across 3/4 yard of that on fabricguru the other day and ordered it. I still much prefer that fabric and, without going into great detail about my poor experience(s) with NH again, I'll probably have mixed emotions when it shows up but one of two things will happen... 1. I'll be able to add a piece of that wonderful fabric to the bed in a pillow or throw or 2. I'll see red and won't be able to stand looking at it on a daily basis. I'm aiming for #1. But please, please don't somebody go and find a bunch of yardage of the large houndstooth now trying to be nice. I don't want to see it because the pillows (all but the solid red) I have stay. I have too much money invested in this. Heck, it may not work at all but we'll see. The fabric should be here in a few days and I'm pretty excited about it. Ha, did you want to know that much? :) Thanks for asking!...See MoreLayering the bed
Comments (79)Hi Scooby!! The shams and bedskirt are being made. I haven't bought anything else to try yet. I think I am going to go ahead and buy a new thicker curtain rod and get the bamboo shades in place. Then focus on the rest of the bedding, curtains, and paint. Still love that Overstock faux fur blanket but I see today the price is up. I'm not sure I feel confident I could pull off leopard print in my room though, lol. I do think it looks good in the one above. Really LOVE both of those rooms. I think I love the 2nd pic a tad more with the white sheets and the plaid. I have decided I'm going to move one of the hunt prints I had in the LR in this room. Remember this one? I'm thinking either over the bed with maybe some plates or round, old landscape pictures I have or over DH's chest. I think I'm going to mat and reframe the other one larger and keep in the LR as there's just not enough room to stack them right. Old pic, showing the other one....See MoreKathie738 P
