Installing shower curtain rod on tile
Comments (31)Yeah, so, the web sites are next to useless. Forgot - I gave up trying to figure it out on Build.com and went to the Moen site, which isn't much better. After I selected, went back to Build.com to buy. My alcove is 58 & 3/8". If you filter on 'Shower Rods' and 'Chrome' (if that's the finish you want - see link below) you get 11 choices. (Note, if you filter on 'Curved Shower Rods' you only get 1 choice - go figure.) With the link below, you throw out the bottom two because they're tension rods and the double rod if you don't want that. Leaves 8. What's the difference besides the price and the end cap? When you check the description, it will say "adjustable for 5' to 6' alcove" - that's the tube within a tube kind. The ones that say "designed to fit a 5' surround securely" means it's a fixed size and you have to cut it if it's too big. Since 5' is 60", I went with CSR2165 and will have to cut off a little less than 2". CSR2166 is the same only for 6' opening (72") or less. With the curved rods, you don't want to be too far away. Cutting off too much won't work, unless you maintain the angle, although the pivoting mounting on some helps. Comments (55)Breezy - the toilet alcove is just a smidge shy of 31 inches wide. The narrowest code would allow in my area. It doesn't feel too cramped - but it's open at the end. If it were at the end of a long "tunnel" it probably would feel cramped. The niches. well, I love them. especially the lower one - helps with shaving!!! :-) originally we weren't going to have that tall metal tension shelf in there - products/soap in niches and along the "shelf/ledge" on the half wall. When the glass was installed, wiping it down was such a pain that we put the tension unit in there....See Morehanging curtains from knobs, not rods?
Comments (23)Sorry I took so long getting back to this thread. Here is how I made mine. I bought a bunch of the small square bullseyes for a backer plate (matches the window trim) and some wood dowel (I BELIEVE 5/16", it was the largest the doorknob would fit on). I also used 3 drill bits, one that was a 1/2" "paddle" type, one that was a regular 5/16" bit and one that was matched to the shank size of a drywall screw. I took my bullseye blocks and first took the large drill bit and used that to shave off the "bump" in the middle of the bullseye. If I didn't do that first, the drill bit would tend to slip off center. Then I took my 5/16" bit (just match it to the dowel size if you use a different size dowel) and drilled about 3/4 of the way through the center of the bullseye. Once I did one carefully I used painters tape on the bit to mark how deep I needed to go for the rest. Last I took my smallest bit and drilled the rest of the way through. Then I cut my dowels to size, painted the blocks and screwed them to the wall with drywall screws (went right into the window header so no anchors needed). Then I stuck the dowels into the holes (if you match drill bit size with dowel size they will fit tight, no glue required, and you can get them out later) and then slipped the knobs over the dowels and used the set screw to tighten them down. That's it! It took me some trial and error to figure out the best way to drill the blocks but I like how it looks. Yes, the valance was made from a pattern. Comments (47)Maybe you can start a new thread asking for help about decorating your guest room. I think many people were confused about your original question and when you didn't explain why you wanted to abandon the furniture, they lost interest in the post. You could also post in design dilemma, which is busier than this forum. Good luck! [Design Dilemma[(https://www.houzz.com/discussions/design-dilemmas-dsbr0-bd~t_28561)...See MoreUser
