Latest CL find -cute desk!

FINALLY found a small desk with character, after scouring CL every day for at least a month -and amazingly, the sellers live than than two miles from us!

We really needed a fairly small desk for this space, but wanted drawer space too. At one point, I was almost willing to give up the quest for a little character. But then this weekend this popped up, and I nabbed it. Came with the chair too. The seller says it is about 40 years old. In real life it is kind of a creamy white. I pulled off the horrid, old, dilapitated cushion, redid it in this cute black and white print, and then re-covered the lamp shade to match. The desk will eventually be repainted, but for right now we will just paint the top and add a piece of glass.

Actually in my neck of the woods, there are dozens of similar desks available - I guess with the growing popularity of laptops, people are downsizing their desks. However most are listed for half the cost, but the manufacturers are Hooker, Ashley, Sauder, etc. I had never heard of Heritage, hence my post.

It is intriguing! I love when people post their finds-it is fun ofr the rest of us too. Here's my opinon: I think this is the kind of thing you really need to look at in person. If the wood is a cherry or other great solid wood, it would really make it a good value vs. more of an office quality type of piece. At 1st glance it doesn't look like the 40's-more like early 60's...just my opinion. I would also get the dimensions and the brand

my3dogs you get the greatest things on your CL in ME! your new stove looks very similar to our gas log Jotul in our sun room ...love the brown enamel and just love your home and decorating sense! (on a side note we are going to Portland tomorrow for an "overnighter" so we are going to make a stop in Buxton to check out Mustard Seed...thanks for sharing!)

Thanks everyone! I'm looking for a solid color shower curtain since I would prefer that. I want a particular shade of green....and I'll find it eventually. (I don't feel like making one since I've got more than enough projects to keep me busy. Working on the master suite right now.) I'll use plates anywhere I want to and I've seen them used by designers in just about every room of a house. Decorative plates are particularly practical in a bathroom. If it gets "steamy" there's no chance they'd be damaged by the water vapor. I considered painting the vanity but, although the photos really don't show it well, the frame on that mirror is cherry. (Lady I bought it from said it used to belong with a dresser she had.) There's no way to paint the vanity to match real cherry and trying to do it would look just look like "painted vanity that she tried to match to a real cherry frame" which is worse than leaving it white, IMHO.

Love the curved drawers. You're right, it really is cute. The chair is perfect. That was a great find and how lucky you didn't have to drive far to get it.

It just goes to show that patience pays off! Love the new desk and how you've covered the lamp shade and seat. Very nice and it looks great up against that red wall, too.

It's a cute desk and I like the cut-out design on the back of the chair too. You've played the black/white design nicely.

adorable, the curved drawers, carvings on the edge the cute legs, the desk has mega charm. I would leave it as is. Your fabric is wonderful on the chair and how cool to cover the shade. I bet your DD is thrilled with it. good eye.
