It will play here in about a half hour -- I can hardly wait!

As a 13-year old, I was transfixed by their first US televised performance 50 years ago. (I've been a fan ever since)

Just got back from seeing "Jersey Boys" on Broadway. What a great show. Those guys were amazing, and boy could they sing, they brought the house down! We had the understudy of the understudy for Frankie Valli's part and he was fantastic, I can't imagine anyone being better than he was. This was my birthday present from July, a gift from DH, so that was fun. Before that, dinner at an outdoor Italian cafe (evening in the high 60s, a beautiful night) sitting outside and watching the city trick and treaters, and then to the show. All the wait staff in the restaurant were dressed in costumes, one in whites and fake blood and a horrible face who said he had an accident in the kitchen when he served us our salads, that was cute. I recommend the show highly! Oh what a night! (couldn't resist)

Thank you Gazania....this is the old curmudgeon speaking...what they call Country today, is just Pop, with anew title. I listen to classic country all the time and I can recognize those singers because they didn't all sound alike, not to mention look alike. Today's so-called female country singers all look the same....skinny, long blond hair, dressed like a hooker. The guys look alike as well, shaggy hair, unshaven, and sloppily dressed. I tried to watch a little of the award show, the only thing that impressed me was when the Service man came on, in the wheel chair, and the standing ovation he received, and the heartfelt song, by Trace Atkins. Anyone living in a townhome??

Before I bought my townhouse, I was living in a modern 2 floor apartment that had two small bedrooms, 1 & a 1/2 small bathrooms, a small balcony off of the small dining room/living room combination and galley kitchen. It was on a second and third floor. It was expensive but modern and had a dishwasher and a small washer/dryer combo in a small closet so finally after years of having to go to that laundry mat, I could do laundry at home. I was in heaven when I first moved into the apartment compared to the old not attractive apartments (remember I live near NYC so everything is priced at ridiculous amounts) in I was living in that cost a fortune and were noisy. I could hear the people underneath me and on both sides of me. So even though it was nicer than all my other apartments that were one floor, it still was not sound proof and that is why I at first did not want to even consider a townhouse. But my current townhouse feels so roomy (and is so pretty on both the outside and the inside) since it is an open plan type of townhouse and not skinny and tall so inside it feels like a home and is sound proof. I would only buy a sound proof townhouse. If the neighbors would have told me that they could hear each other, I would have just bought the house in the lesser neighborhood to have the room I wanted which would still fit into this small sized house forum since houses are so much in North Jersey. I grew up in a house that cost hardly anything in South Jersey (about 3 hours south of where I live now) that is so much bigger than what I have now with a lot more land than I have now. I know my house cost 3X as much as my friend's home in another state and her home has more land and is bigger. It took me so long to accept this fact about North Jersesy and that I could just not save and save for the size house I grew up in especially with the expenses I have so it was difficult to save much each year. Finally I just made up my mind to accept what I could afford in my area and stop comparing it to other areas and what I wish I could have. I stopped paying the high rent prices and bought a home about 9.5 years ago. Renting is not always so bad but in my case I needed more room and it would have been more costly to get an outside office and rent an apartment than buy a home bigger enough for both (a home and an office)like I did. I still wish I had a basement, wish my Master bedroom was a little bigger, wish I had more land in my backyard and wish I had an end unit. I also wish I had two zone heat and I wish I did not have forced hot air drying heat. :) But other than those wishes, I love my home and the location and the fact that I can't hear my neighbors.

I recall seeing a shortened version of this back in my high school days which would have been in the 70s. I think it was for a music appreciation class. I remember some studio clips and their famous rooftop concert. So when I saw this advertised I though, "Well they probably had a lot of unused footage from that shorter video so now they are trying to capitalize on it. I'll bet a lot of it was boring stuff." So not going to spend the dough for that. I'm a Beatles fan, but I had a feeling it would be a tough slog. But yes, that rooftop concert . . . !!!!!! Proves that they weren't just a studio talent, that they could crank out pure rock and roll like nobody's business. All those early years playing clubs . . . I have seen Beatles cover bands twice, and that music rocks in live performance no matter who is playing it, it's just pure rock and roll genius. RE Yoko, I just have no appreciation for her talent, but I'd hardly blame her for the Beatles break up. Most bands do break up as the artists mature into different individual interests. And yes, there was something creepy about her sitting there, but she has said in interviews that John wanted her to be there. I imagine she was kind of bored so that's probably a lot of the vibe.

I loved it. Brought back memories from soooo long ago.
We have all be able to follow their lives, and it seems strange to me, that 50 years have gone by! We're reminded when events are replayed, etc., we're getting on in age too! It looks like Paul and Ringo are still friends. I'd heard, they said they would never reunite for anything.
Yoko looked strung out on something. Never cared for her.

I have been a Beatlemaniac since that day 50 years ago tonight. I have all their music and my kids grew up hearing it. I got teary when the final two sang together at the end. I miss John and George. They are the greatest group of all time and their music will go on forever. I'd kinda like to show some of today's kids what real music is.

We sure did! Hubby is a huge Beatles fan, he started playing drums when he saw Ringo on the Ed Sullivan show.

Maroon 5 did an awesome job of singing the songs, as did the others. Really liked the group of guys......don't know their name, the guitar player had long blonde hair. They were terrific as well.

Neither of us like Yoko. Love that Ringo and Joe Walsh are brothers-in-law......Joe married Ringo's wife's sister a few years ago.

I think Ringo was an only child. I believe Walsh is married to his wife's sister.

I thought the show struggled to be interesting. To me, it seemed to be more about current "stars" doing the old songs and less a show about the Fab Four.

There are many good video segments of the Beatles on Youtube. Included are the several Sullivan show appearances, live concerts, etc. Those wishing to take a peak back in time may find the many old videos there to be more interesting.

It was a really wonderful trip down memory lane (as so many things seem to be these days!) We lived in the UK before the Ed Sullivan show, and my two kids were already huge fans. It was a fun show!

Snidely, I mis-typed. I meant to say Joe Walsh is married to Ringo's wife's sister. Thanks for correcting that!
I think having Walsh in the family would be a hoot, he's a riot.

We watched it and tivo'd it...played it again for my kids who neither have cable...my grandson was standing in front of the tv swaying back and forth...he's only 18 months old and already loves music!! sooo glad cause his Nana will be a rocker all of her life!
