Counter height window + thicker than standard counters
Comments (10)Thanks again everyone. firsthouse_mp and rhome, your kitchens have long been in my inspiration notebook and I think your thick countertops are awesome! firsthouse, may I ask how tall you are? I'm 5'7. My mom is 5'11", and designed her kitchen to have a finished counter height of 37 1/2" because standard feels too short for her. For me, 37 1/2" feels on the edge of uncomfortably high. rhome, may I ask what the floor to countertop height of your cabinets ended up being? Is it comfortable for you? Unfortunately, working with the cabinet guy isn't an option yet, since I don't have one thus far. My place is just being framed now, so cabinets won't be happening for a while. I wouldn't even have to be thinking about this yet, if it weren't for the window issue. I'm going with an induction cooktop and wall ovens, so unless there's something I'm forgetting, I mainly have to worry about the dishwasher height here. Sorry for the dense question, but is a "Euro model" one that's actually imported from overseas, or just a European brand, like Miele? (I'm guessing brands like Miele market larger units to the US market but I don't know)...See MoreGranite countertop has different height. Advice needed.
Comments (24)"I shoot the laser across the front. On the left the laser shoots right at the top edge of granite. On the right it shoots below the top edge as you can see on the picture. The laser is level." You're only getting a level check across the front edge with the laser. You must check the plane of the slabs to each other on each side, side to side/front, side to side/rear, rear left to front right, rear right to front left, and front to back each side. This is why you put a 4' level across the appliance opening in an "X' fashion as mentioned earlier....See MoreMismatched Kitchen Counter-tops
Comments (35)Heatheron40, very nice. I asked a question about doing a tile countertop in our guest cabin recently as I feel like the look would complement the cabin aesthetic. Also I’m dying to learn to tile and thought it would be a fun place to start as it’s not an everyday space and I could take my time. Most of the responses were against. Basically stating the grout would make me crazy. The guy at the said what you’re saying I think, he said that modern grouts are more resistant to staining and such, and also to go with a tinted grout of some sort. I love your use of pattern to give it interest and intention!...See MoreHelp....crack in new granite counter top and bad seam
Comments (33)Joe...also....the corbels under the granite were from previous countertop. There are 2 and the counter on the side with the crack does not meet it...they filled in gap with epoxy. I have a call in to the fabricator company...they also sell the slabs and installed. Am I being unreasonable about the crack? I can see it and feel it. I spent a lot of money for these tops and am also using as full height backsplash. They are supposed to install tomorrow which obviously will not happen until they come out and we discuss the counter concerns....See Moremegradek
