How Much Pepto Can You Give A Dog????

I think my 2 jack russells have the flu,my gosh theyve been passing gas ,one has squirts.I remember the vet telling me to use pepto ,dont remember how much.

I would follow the directions as like giving it to a child with the dogs being so little. Not sure, that is just what I would do.
Hope they feel better soon

Our cat has to be pilled every other day for the rest of his life. Luckily for me, they invented Pill Pockets - tuck the pill inside, roll it into a tight little ball, wait til Kitty is nice and calm, and pop it down the hatch. I guess it works because the pill pocket tastes good and masks the smell and taste of the medicine. They also make them for dogs, but why bother if you have a piece of cheese or a dab of peanut butter around. Dogs are sooo easy - or at least ours is. If the composition isn't there, no camera will make up for it. First you need the 'eye'. You can develop it through trial and error or through instruction, but the camera won't do it for you. However, once you know how to take a good picture, a good camera opens up more possibilities for creativity and control. Still, I agree that it's 90% the photographer. Maybe 95%. If you want to help your friends become better photographers, give them assignments! My DH and I use very different cameras and we've had fun challenging each other with subject matter or with a particular technique. Who can take the best picture of the dogs, what happens if we shoot everything on the tungsten setting today, intesting subjects for a still life, coolest portrait, weirdest light - and my favorite so far: who can make a neighbor look most like a rock star! We're both still struggling with the last one but it's been pretty funny!

Dog's allergies are often caused by their becoming allergic to the protein sources in their food. By switching to homemade food, you may find it doesn't eliminate the problem if you're still feeding chicken or beef or whatever he's become allergic to. You may need to go to some of the less commonly fed meats such as buffalo or rabbit. They can develop allergies at any time in their lives and they become more common with age, so switching to a protein they've never had before means they've never developed an allergy to it. If you do decide to cook your dog's food, I included a link to a calculator that will help you determine how many calories your dog should need. Of course, you'll have to figure out how many calories are in the food you make and then you can adjust the amount you feed as time goes on and you see whether he's slimming down or not. Also, I thought I'd mention how important it is to include a calcium source in homemade food. It's very crucial for dogs to have the proper balance between phosphorus and calcium or they can become very ill. Meat is full of phosphorus, but not calcium, and they get their calcium from eating bones. If you aren't feeding raw bones he can chew up and eat, you will need to add either bonemeal or I use a product called Eggshellent Calcium made from ground eggshells. Sassy had kidney disease and had stopped eating. Vet gave her famotidine, aka Pepcid and she started eating again. Kidney dogs get acidic from a build up of phosphorus and can get ulcers. For a regular upset tummy where the dog got into something extra try slippery elm bark powder. Late in life the raw diet disagreed with Max and as I was working through possible issues I'd mix it up and dab some on his nose. He would decide it helped and would eat some from the spoon. He would climb on my lap all tense and hurting and in 5 minutes would relax as it did the job. I worked on it for less than a week before giving up on raw and with the SEB he wasn't suffering. For a dog that's otherwise healthy but has those awful 'bile' upchucks early in the morning a snack before bed eliminates most of them but a diet switch might help. Max about ruined my carpet even with nightly snacks when on kibble. I noticed on a higher fat zero fiber raw diet he didn't need that snack and completely stopped those upchucks. He seemed to be sensitive to fiber from veggies and preferred an extremely low fiber diet, either raw or when he didn't tolerate raw, cooked with a bit of white rice. I offer mushy white rice and chicken breast when dogs had upset tummies.

my 55lb & 65lb can take up to 1/2 tablet. we have never used the liquid stuff. what about tums? mine take up to 1 whole tablet but we first start w/ 1/2. JR's are much smaller maybe 1/4 tablet? ~ liz

Know what they say about using liquid pepto on a dog? They say "How can I get the pink off my ceiling?" Use the pill. Try a children's dose, appropriate by pound. Good luck!

Yep a pill is best. I gave our doxie Pepto under the vets orders but can't remember how much.
And it was for upset tummy while she was on meds.

If I were you, I'd try canned pumpkin Bulldinkie. It should help with both the problems. Make sure it is plain pumpkin, NOT pumpkin pie filling.

I found this to help with how much to give.

Pumpkin for Diarrhea and Constipation

It's quite strange that canned pureed pumpkin (not the pie filling but the 100% natural canned pumpkin) can work wonders for both the occasional bout of diarrhea or for the opposite, constipation in dogs. It has been reported that it firms up dog's loose stools or diarrhea within a few hours. How much pumpkin should you give? It depends on the size of the dog but as a rule of thumb a couple of teaspoons daily for a small dog or a couple of tablespoons for a large dog. It's doubtful that your dog or puppy will eat it without disguising it in some way in it's food.

Check on the Pet Forum. Never give a dog human medicine, except I put Antibiotic cream on my dog's face when she got scratched by a bush.

I would never give a dog Tums. You should never medicate a dog without directions from your vet. You can kill a animal with many human medications. With diarrhea you have to watch for dehydration. Call your vet.

don't worry our dogs are the most important 'people' in our lives, sometimes they out rank my DH lol. our vet did recommend the tums to us for buffering the tummy while on certain meds. same w/ the pepto, thou we never have that on hand usually. one of my girls actually has acid reflux (from megalosophogus) w/ her meds and has to eat a meal w/ them and takes 1/2 tablet rantidine to off set acid tummy upset. ~ liz

I just had to jump in here and say that my golden and my 2 doxies absolutely love canned pumpkin. After opening a can, I put it in a plastic container in the fridge and then give them spoons of pumpkin as a treat! They love it!

Our Westie gets liquid Pepto Bismol in a syringe in his mouth. About one tablespoonful. Get the syringe into the back of his tongue; squirt it in; hold mouth shut and stroke throat to encourage swallowing. Eliot now knows it will make him feel better, so isn't resistant to taking it. Yes, I still have to wipe his whiskers afterwards.

Be sure to get the plain pumpkin, not pie filling, which has tons of sugar.

Ingredient list should say:

Pumpkin.
