I had read your original "drawer disaster" thread & should have caught on & asked for heavy duty slides for my 36" drawers.
One my drawers is a dish drawer with a peg system. I had a vague recollection that the slides might have a weight limit so I emailed KD who contacted Wood-Mode, emailed me back with 75 lbs, I loaded 60 lbs of dishes into the drawer & the soft close has stopped working & the drawer closes unevenly. Emailed KD, sent installer out, agreed it was a weight issue.
Now, they are charging me for the slides & the labor to install them on two drawers, $470. They are using a 110 lb. slide that is supposedly "custom made" for WM.
The whole situation aggravates me. How are you supposed to utilize a dish drawer that is rated for 75 lbs if the drawer & the peg system take up 30 lbs of that weight?
Did BH charge you for your heavy duty slides? Do you know which Blum HD slides were installed, the 568H (110lbs/125 lbs) or the 569H (125lbs/150 lbs) Or a special custom made one? Did you have to pay for the labor to install them?

Edited: venting a little too strongly. Wood-Mode & my KD came thru. They are replacing the glides at no charge.

I'm not a2g, but I followed her saga and talked extensively to my cabinet maker about drawers.

First, you really don't NEED the peg system to keep your dishes in place. Our kitchen isn't complete, but I have started putting dishes in my 36" dish drawer (full extension & soft close). The dishes stay put...that's without any drawer liner even. The only reason for the peg system that I can see is if you think it looks prettier.

From what I remember when I was researching, glides are to have no more than 80% of their static rated weight (obviously, less is better)...this is for ALL items resting on them (drawer, inserts, contents). Your KD probably should have told you about this limitation, but my experience has been that they unfortunately don't always think of things like that.

I'm certainly a layman, but in all of my researching, I never came across or know of anything that Blum makes that is custom made for only a certain cabinet brand. So, I think that I'd call BS on that.

At this point, if I were you, I'd probably be inclined to order my own glides and install them myself (you can find videos on YouTube) or if you don't feel comfortable doing that, look into hiring a handyman and still come out to the good by a few hundred dollars compared to what the KD was telling you it would cost.

Andreak, thanks for the info. I'm not buying the custom made Blum either. What really aggravates me is the $280 labor charge for 2 drawers. If I get someone else to do the install, it voids my warranty.
I'm hoping a2gemini had a better experience & I can use that to make my case.

D.J Healy, Obviously you're having some extreme problems. My DishDrawer is now past 12 years of age and has not had any such continual/recurring problems are you've experienced. I surely don't have to prewash or postwash anything. I would love to get a hands-on look at your machine and your usage habits to see what may factors may be contributing to your dissatisfaction. I'm in TX but about 5.5 hrs from DFW area. A couple months ago I noticed water leaking on the floor to varying degrees after running loads at various times in both the upper and lower drawers. Upon investigating I found that both drain hoses had developed cracks -- both were cracked behind the DishDrawer where they made a sharp bend toward the opening in the cabinetry partition to the sink plumbing, the lower hose was also cracked a few inches from where it attached to the pump. The drain hoses flex every time the drawers are open/closed so it's not unusual that a crack may occur after years of use. I have experience working on appliances so can DIY pretty much any repair (except refrigeration!). F&P parts are available from a couple online sources. The backlight on the upper drawer's LCD panel had gone out a year or so earlier (which didn't prevent the unit from working, the operational icons and cycle time were displayed, just not lit from behind) so I took the parts-order opportunity to replace it. There have been updates on the lid motors (mine were still working at 12 years) and hose/wiring supports (upper had broken a couple years ago, I patched it with a zip-tie) so I also got a kit package to update my older unit on those points. No other repairs for the 12-years duration to that point. Regards to cleaning performance, below are some examples of what I load-in and how it comes out. I didn't take these pictures just now, I have them on-hand from previous discussion posts. Baked chicken (sat for several days before washing). Boiled-over oatmeal with raspberry jam. Microwaved pasta & sauce.

No. I installed mine ... uninstalled, moved it to a different house, installed again. Never any trouble with that. Main things are follow the instructions for moisture-proofing the cabinetry cavity, route the drain hoses properly, level it, and anchor the unit correctly with the side and top tabs.

This thread has helped me a great deal. I'm in the process of designing my kitchen for a new home we will be building (hopefully) soon. the hangup has been my klitchen . I've had kitchens a tad tight, but functioned well, and I've had the huge kitchen with too great a distance to everything, including carrying a kettle of boiling water across the kitchen to dump in the sink. I've been going around and around with wondering if the table should go in the center of the whole kitchen, (Julia Child style), or if I should I have a wonderful island, for baking and perhaps a small prep sink in it. The pros to table centered in kitchen is small steps to serve and clean up. The cons are I give up having full view of our woods. With the island the table can have full view of the woods at the end of the kitchen area, and I can have my wonderful baking island. The cons are it's a lot of steps to set the table in a kitchen that long. Twenty some feet seems long. I'm thinking the view and the use of the island would be well worth it. Sandy

Hi erikanh, our kitchen in the "in progress" section of the fkb. DH is making some of our lighting fixtures and I refuse to call it done until they are up---so we've been at 95/98% for 3+ years (our cabinets were installed March-June 2005). Good thing we have classic cabinets. Otherwise the kitchen would probably be hopelessly out of date by the time I consider it "done". I think the FKB link brings you to my photobucket album which is not at all organized and often has multiple shots of one view---not really ready for prime time. layout and top wall: left side of top wall (toward eating area) and right side (toward mudroom) with baking center: Right wall: bottom wall: Left Wall from kitchen side and then back from dining room side (hutch doors are a pass through) The cabinet lines ended up looking squiggly when I shrunk the photos. Please be assured that our cabinets are really nice and straight : ) I know what it's like to fall in love with cabinetry. I first scoped out cabinets in a couple of local lumber yards in the early 90's. There was just one line of cabinet I really really liked and I put some literature in a folder. More than a decade passed and I checked out cabinets again in 2004. I was introduced to CP by a family member. I loved them and compared to some bathroom cabinets we had made by a cabinetmaker friend they seemed like a good value. After ordering the cabinets I found my old folder from 1991 and the cabinets I had loved then were CP! Obviously their sales method had changed (no longer in lumberyard kitchen showrooms) but my heart held steady without me knowing it. Lucky thing we waited so long because we're at a different point in our lives where we're willing to spend money on the infrastructure of a house we hope to still be living in in 40 years. Resolved my problem. Wood-Mode will be replacing the standard Blumotion drawer glides with heavy duty glides, no charge. Thanks GW, you gave me the knowledge & the courage.

Glad to hear it. Charging you $280 labor to replace the slides on two drawers was outrageous - Those slides literally take less than two minutes each to remove and replace.

So glad you got your problem solved romy without out-of-pocket expense.

Maybe it's a good practice to put heavier duty glides on ALL drawers. Dishes weigh more than you think, but so do pots and pans, mixing and serving bowls, casserole dishes, cups and glasses and the list goes on. Even cutlery and small utensils can get weighty. And as you stated, the weight of the drawer has to factor into the equation and if the drawers are solid wood, that weight can be fairly substantial.
