Transition between dining room/living room
Comments (4)I have sort of the same thing but without the curve. Just a straight line down then cut at a 45 degree angle to the wall. If you think that might look a little *off*, then perhaps you could either take it straight from the wall down (past the curve) and finish with an L to the other wall. Or - take it from the end of the cabinet to the wall. I can tell from your tiles that that almost lines up exactly. Except I'm not sure if that would cut off your kitchen area too much. Play around with a large measuring stick or two....See MoreHalf wall or pass through between kitchen and dining room?
Comments (18)Whether to do a passthrough, half-wall, or full wall all depends on how you want the two rooms to feel and function (both separately and together). So, I cannot tell you what will work best. However, my brother recently renovated his kitchen (nearly finished) and changed a full wall to a half wall between his kitchen and dining room. He tends towards more informal gatherings and he wanted to help the small closed-off kitchen feel larger and more open to the house. He does not like upper cabinets and with the remodel was able to acquire additional lower cabinets to make up for the lost storage. He has no stools on the dining room side of the half wall, though the granite does cover the top of the half wall. (In fact, the dining room is simply too narrow to accommodate a table and chairs and counter seating.) His new kitchen feels very open and light (the dining room is on a corner and light floods in from two large windows) and he is extremely happy with the result. Your inspiration picture is very lovely. The detailing on the window is beautiful and could probably be duplicated through wood trim on a pass-through if you would be interested....See MoreLighting under built-ins between the kitchen and dining room
Comments (3)For highly exposed locations such as this, our Design Team typically recommends utilizing a covered panel, since the glare from bare LED flex tape can be obnoxious from certain viewing angles. We actually offer several different varieties of custom covered panels which are both sleek and cost effective. Or, if you are willing to route a small groove into the underside of these cabinets, we offer an extremely low profile option (about 1/2 cm in height) which could be flush mounted into the wood. This is referred to as our iDea Series system, and is available exclusively through our Design Team. Services are completely free, you would simply need to send in a copy of these photos along with a few measurements, and one of our expert designers would get you set up with a custom system in just a few business days! If you have any additional questions, feel free to reach out to us, we'd be happy to help!...See MoreEmpty space between dining room/kitchen
Comments (12)If you have a garage or basement or mud room or even an attic that you use for storage -- or a children's bedroom, you can move your shelving there to use as storage if you truly dislike the shelving in this room. The two high chairs are noted, so, do make sure the shelving will not tip over wherever you place it. Or, if you prefer your table turned the original way and still have a large space in between kitchen and dining, you might consider using the shelving as a room divider. If you centered it, it would likely need to be attached to the floor and/or ceiling -- or to boards on each side that are attached to floor and ceiling -- to ensure it wouldn't fall over. Or, another option could be to put one side of the shelving unit against the wall, perhaps left of the pass thru left of where the high chairs are sitting or left of the patio door -- but if the height of it makes that a bad fit, then ... ... does the shelving side supports come apart -- as in, could you remove the back "x" brace and end up with a three shelf shelving unit (and a pair of extra shelves)? If so, if you add a back to the three shelves -- think wainscoting -- you might find it is a better visual fit as a room divider for your open space. If your shelving does come apart and you use only three shelves to create a room dividing bookcase, perhaps you could create a shorter bookcase or box shelf or pair of benches for the children with what is left. If you keep the bookcase whole, this article on "styling" a bookcase appears to include your specific bookcase. https://www.coasterfurniture.com/small-bookshelf...See Morelavender_lass
