I'm of now help since I'm drooling over your deco buffet and dining table and chairs. I would find it very hard to give those up. Don't get me wrong, all the pieces you've shared that you like are beautiful too. Just the other isn't something you see in every other home you visit. And I like being different. I thrive on it actually.

Ahhhh the deco table and chairs with buffet...dear to my heart, but not functional for everyday use (though I grew up using them). The trestle style table has solid ends, so it's not comfortable to sit at. If you sit on the side, it can only fit 1 chair unelss I have the butterfly leaf up all the time and then I can sit a max of 6 comfortably unless its kids.

The other big issue with the pieces...the veneer is broken off in a lot of places, hence the table runner on the buffet and the table cloth on the Table. The table top has become detached from the base from all it's years of moving. The chairs are a whole other issue...falling apart (after years of kids, my brother and i, rocking on them and dogs chewing on them).

I love the buffet, but can't fit it the dinning room and have it comfortable (not enough width, it used to be there before the remodel) and I think it's too short for the wall it's on the photos.

The set will probably be the last thing I replace...but I'm trying to plan ahead.

Oh I do becktheeng. I love waterfall and other art deco furniture. It's just such a unique, as you say, style. Our guest room will be filled with it now that our son has moved out. He didn't care for it. Took up too much space since his son was here half time too.
I do understand that a table needs to function too. I've been playing musical tables lately trying to find some that both looks great and works well too. Not always easy, is it?

Ah-I did see this post, but wasn't paying attention to your name! I think the Nain rugs would be lovely in your space (like the Ballard design one, too), but I am not sure I would like the material you showed for the Roman shade with those rugs. Love the plaid and stripe swatches, though.

Thanks cyn...that was my worry too...maybe I just loose the floral fabric....though it is one of my favorites ever and much cheaper than the silks.

Don't give up on the floral. It would look great on the parson's chairs. You have so many angles that a softer pattern would break them up a bit.

Don't think you'd want all stripes and plaids.

When I was at Pottery Barn looking at another table, this one caught my eye, but I was really unsure of the end extenders. I asked about it, but even the salesperson questioned the durability of the design. We walked away. I loved the look of several prices on the PB website but was underwhelmed when I saw them in person.

For PB prices, you could probably get a custom table that would last a very long time.

As soon as I saw farm table, I could see it in front of your french doors - I think it would look great! No time to draw a floor plan, so I'll describe what immediately came to mind:

The table in front of french doors would divide the space such that you would have two seating areas - one in front of room, and one in back. For example, the two recliners (with or w/o TV) in the back of the room, with room for larger gatherings in the front. The front could be slightly more formal, with a sectional sofa, or sofa with chairs. The breakfront could be on the wall that you see from the entry. It, and its interesting objects, would be a focal point, and yet still convenient to the kitchen.

Do pop over the Cote de Texas blog (a fantastic decor blog with tones of resources and links to other blogs too) -- and take a look at Joanie Webb's posting about blue-and-white-striped rugs -- some of the photos just might be inspiring for you too!

And have a look at the new House Beautiful magazine issue -- all about Blue -- again -- some wonderful ideas there too!

LOVE your ideas! And I would want a blue-andwhite striped rug OR a simple sisal one (for warmer months) -- and then add the Ballard one for the cooler months.

Sally the yellow is by Dunn Edwards, it's called Summer Hue..an orange undertoned yellow, because in the northeat facing room, any other yellow (and I tried a ton) looked green.

I think I'm pretty set on the layout as the LR is already wired for surround sound. But I could definitely entertain a few other ideas...I used to have a sectional in there and I hated it...never again, I like to be able to move things around and big furniture is not that flexible.

The floors are a medium brown maple engineered that are 5" wide. Can't remember the name...I'll try to look it up.

Any ideas for the WT that are less costly than the silks?

Ok, I'm liking the suggestion to look at the Cote de Texas blue and white stripe rugs...I love the dhurrie rugs!

Maybe the problem is just what parma said, if I go with stripe rug is that too much geometrics? I could do a seagrass, with edge binding, then find an interesting coffee table for in front of the sofa.

Parma the refractory table link was great...exactly want I want (looks like it would be more expensive than the pottery barn one)...my problem is, I live in southern california, so sources for things like this, that I can go touch are few and far between. I'd only use the end extensions (company boards) a couple times a year...maybe I should consider not having them...Anyone have experience with that sort of design?

Becktheeng - love the breakfront - beautiful. And I also love the blue floral (I love blue and white also). I wouldn't lose it. I think it would be great on the chairs and for a roman shade. Maybe a couple of throw pillows of the floral and the silk stripes for accents. I worry about the flowery or striped rugs. I wonder if you would get tired of them. Maybe something more muted like the one attached. Don't know if in real life it would go with your yellow.

For me, I'd be hunting for an antique farm table. Any access around you for that? Or a table made from antique wood.

Hey prill...thanks for the encouragement. I think I have to keep the blue floral...after all it was my favorite thing I picked out almost a year ago.

My thoughts exactly on tiring of a floral/striped rug...that's why the seagrass is very tempting. Plus it reads very beachy, just not sure it's going to give me the warmth I want....it does give great texture though. I like the rug you linked, but I've seen it in person and it's too cold and the blue's a little too light....the rug is really stumping me and of course I'd like to get that sooner than later.

I have definitely been looking at the reclaimed tables. There is a pine dealer near me, but her stuff is outrageously expensive. I do have one at the unfinished store that has the reclaimed too...the problem with them was that they didn't offer end extensions. So, if I give those up (not sure I'd use them too often), I should be able find something easier.

I think you should pick the rug first - then you can pick a sofa color that will blend with all your elements. You could certainly go with a similar shade of blue, or maybe a mossy green, even better if you can pull that from the rug you pick.

hey! i have that table--though not from pb. ime it holds up very well, but those extensions are a pain to move and remove. also the grooves catch everything and need constant cleaning with a toothpick or the vacuum. that said, it is beautiful and that width is great for our large family.
your room is going to be gorgeous when you're done, love the fabric and breakfront.

You've made some awesome selections/choices! When I did my greatroom, my first item was the rug, and I built the room around it. Make sure you choose one you can live with for a long time, and can be used with more than one colorway in case you want a change, seasonal or otherwise. ;o)

Thanks for the encouragement! I noticed Ballard has a sale on rugs right now and the seagrass is very reasonably priced and I can get it with a blue binding. Now to decide on a size!

I order a Seagrass Rug, with a blue binding from Ballard. For the price, if I decide to change it out in a few years it won't kill me.
