?-did we install the wrong size base for 30 in cooktop

We installed a 30" drawer base for a cooktop. Now as we get closer to buying a cooktop we notice that many specs indicate a cutout of @29.5 inches for the width. We have 28.75. In hindsight should we have gone with a 33 inch base? Hoping to guide friends in planning and don't want them to make the same error. Too late now ,but luckily a few cooktops have 28.5 for the cutout for us.

If you have a 30 inch base which cooktop did you use-- now looking a GE profile or Bosch (non-induction)-- and did you have any install issues?

I noticed this for most of the induction cooktops but didn't realize non-induction was the same. Appliance and cabinet dealers should point this out when you order. I'm so glad you found something else that will work.

Thank you everyone! Encouraged by your replies, I started with looking at meangoose's link and renewed my search. I stumbled across a Frigidaire FGGC3045KB on a big L box store's site that was on sale for about 40% of the original $899 MSRP (still available at a huge savings if you add it to your cart to view the price). It has a 17,000 and a 12,000 burner. Although they are front burners, I am happy to get such high BTU at a savings. It has continuous grates and I was able to get the black that I preferred. I was actually able to get it for even less through price matching at a local retailer who will install it next week. Hubby was so happy that he went to the store and ordered it himself! I am confidant that jumping from 9000 to 17,000 will speed up my boiling significantly. Maybe I will even get adventurous and make a great stir fry!

Thanks. Our new KD sent me to a home across town with the exact cooktop (KA) and 30" drawer base. Wow!!! Yep it fits with a haircut. The KD designated STDW (scooped, or cut down) option for the top drawer, and the sides of the cab got a trim, but the top drawer holds (as mentioned) potholders, tools and about five lids - great use of space and very cook friendly.

Installing a 32' sink in a 30' sink base

Hmm I think you need to be a bit more specific on the measurements. Is 32" the measurement from the outside edge to outside edge of the sink? I'm assuming that 30" is the outside to outside of the box of the cabinet, unless it is face framed in which case it could be the exterior of the face frame (I think?) which would be worse. Unless you measured it, it's doubtful that it's the inside of the box because then it would really be a ~31.5" sink base... which would be odd. Unless you are planning to lop off the top part of your sink base... I'm not really seeing how this is going to work. A 30" sink base is likely only 28.5" interior. The bowl of a 32" sink is likely 30" outside to outside of the bowl only.

Miele 30 inch induction cooktop?

I have the Miele "30" inch cooktop - but it actually measures 31" across. I have it above a 36" drawer (exterior measurement - the interior of the drawer is about 33" across). My oven isn't below the cooktop.

My 36" cooktop fit in my 36" base, no problems at all. The overall dimensions of the cooktop is 36 3/4", but the part that actually drops down into the base is 33 7/8". I am surprised that a 30" cooktop won't fit in a 30" base.

Looks like I have the same mistake, I already installed the cabinets and notice my Bosch calls for a cutout 28.75" wide. but that is on the counter top and I have to check if it get's smaller below the counter top.

Because my cabinet's inside width is 28.5" I may have to shave off 1/8" off each side of the cabinet.
Easily done with a router. I would NOT install a bigger base just to deal with this minor width difference though.

We had the same problem only with a 36". We ordered the 36" drawer base and decided to get the 36" Miele induction-until we discovered it was actually bigger than 36". We ended up with the 36" Gagg induction but it's not installed yet. I'm hoping it fits OK- KD says it will. A 39" base would have messed up my symmetry.

thanks all. I told the kd dozens of times that we planned to put our cooktop in the base and although they always said not to modify the drawer base until we had the cooktop they never said that certain tops might not fit. We were trying to get the cab to the left of the drawer base bigger (from 15 to 18) and if we had known, I would have gone with a 33 inch base and the 15 inch cab. But as poorowner said a minor modification is manageable and I am happy that I have a kitchen :-) altho it is still a work in progress.
ccoombs1-- I did a quick spot check and several of the 36 inch tops only require a 34 or less cut out.
poorowner-- would you share your bosch choice.

OK guys I just took out my Bosch 30" Induction and the actual metal box under the glass top is 28.25" It will be a tight fit in my 28.5" inside width cabinet, but it will work without modifications, just have to install it very carefully, infact, it would be very perfectly centered this way.

It calls for 28.75" cutout to give you more wiggle room. Hope this helps..
