Neat Freaks closet organizers

Finally getting new carpet and of course that means I need to buy new window treatments and a closet organizer. Can anyone with this system tell me how how much weight it can hold?

I mean I could probably put our suitcases on the floor or move them somewhere else, but would they be able to hold that much weight on the top shelf?

Would like someone to answer who actually has the system. I'm afraid of biased answers from someone who works there.

Robin, I used to make conscious choices about what I wanted to do: "Should I mop the kitchen floor and arrange my cupboards and closets, or should I go outside and play in the pool/practice basketball moves/listen to my kids' problems? Since I had to work outside the home, my time with my kids was already limited and they won out every single time. I justified that by finally recognizing that they needed me more than they needed a spotless environment and that eventually they wouldn't need me so I'd better spend time with them while I could. After some mopping of floors at 3 a.m. when I had to be up at 6 a.m. and at work by 8 a.m., I decided that spotless was unnecessary, LOL. Then my family doctor told me that as a nation we were "sanitizing our children sick", and that by making everything so antiseptic our kids wouldn't build up the immunities they needed to survive and stay healthy outside our homes. That's when I stopped feeling guilty. I didn't want to make my kids sick by being too clean, you know. (grin) I do agree about some people being judgmental. The thing is, I stopped caring about their opinions too, and I sure stopped allowing/inviting them into my house. If they are so rude as to criticize my priorities, I don't want them as friends anyway. Annie

What a neat reno! I've got some ideas, but I have a couple questions for you before I start to tinker with it... - What is going in the space to the left of the mudroom door (across from the mudroom bench)? - How crucial is it to have access to the kitchen from the mudroom? - What are the current laundry room dimensions? Mudroom? Hall from mudroom to stairs and living area? - What are the 2 "closets" across from the stairs? - What are the two rectangle shapes in the hall between mudroom and kitchen? - Is the door on your left as you enter the main part of the house from the mudroom the garage access door? If so, do you have a "man door" into the garage from outside (a separate entry door into the garage besides the actual garage doors)?

Lots of really good light is necessary. Trying to differentiate between the navy blue pants and the black pants and then trying to find socks that match is hard without good lighting. I'm always having to bring my stuff out of the closet into the bedroom where the light is better to figure it out. I have a mix of hangers - padded ones for blouses, clipped ones for skirts, my Dh likes wooden ones for suit jackets and I like really strong ones for my jeans - and those are really hard to find these days. Costco often sells nice packages of hangers. Think about what you are storing other than clothes - shoes, purses (I have a deeper shelf at the top for purses so as to keep those pesky straps under control and they are in cubbies that hold about 4 purses each), accessories such as scarves, belts.

Wow...how did I miss this thread till now??? I LOVE being organized, but one half of this family, not so much. My oldest DD was born with the gene, so it comes naturally for her. The youngest DD...not so much. It's like living with Felix and Oscar (for the **oldies** here who can remember the ODD COUPLE) hehehe. Frankly I love being organized cos it drives me crazy having to look for things. I'm just glad to know I'm not totally crazy for labeling my light switches. I use the P-touch labeler too. I never knew they made brass plates. When I labeled mine, I just used the small tape with small fonts. With one plate that has 5 different switches, it sure comes in handy. For my dear mother who loses EVERYTHING, I found the perfect plaque that reads "Organized people are just too lazy to look for things!"

Hmm, I'd give them a call too. Perhaps someone has used the exact system you're looking at, but anything mounted to the wall will hold a substantial amount of weight for closet-related items. If it's freeform and wouldn't support your suitcases, I'd be terrified of hanging a row of shirts and hangers!

How is the closet shelving mounted?

Pine - Our John Louis Home systems are "off the floor" mounting systems. We utilize three universal bracket types that are secured onto the walls. The shelves are then locked into the brackets. Since the shelving covers the majority of the brackets, minimal hardware is in view. Because the closet system is raised, floor space is open and clear of any obstructions.

Hardwood - Our hardwood systems can either be "off the floor" or rest on the floor, depending on your desire or need. There is no metal hardware with these systems. All of the supports are made of Ash Shelving connects directly to other shelving, creating an "all wood" look.

I think the shelf would hold it just fine, ie would not break of buckle. It is the 'proper' installations of the brackets by you or an installer that holds the shelf, that would be of greater concern to me. Properly anchored into studs should surely hold the weight of suitcases and more.
