I need a kitchen that works with my house!

I've been living and breathing kitchen lately. Thanks to GW, I think we've got a pretty good layout that I will finalize and tweak once we choose a cabinet supplier.

Now I am revisiting my decor choices. We are building a post and beam log style house and I think I need help designing the kitchen. Obviously, rustic is a fixed element. I also like transitional and cottage styles.

Here's what I've got so far:

Flooring: 8" wide white oak planks, medium brown stain

Cabinetry: Painted shaker style

Countertop: I like light counters... Like Torquay? Ceasarstone nougat?

Lighting: I've been looking at Barnlight electric

Ok, so this kitchen has logs and ceiling similar to what we will have.

A kitchen I like

Would gray cabinets work?

I have a tricky DH to work with. He is very opinionated, but not really into planning the finishes (unless we're talking about his gym or media room). Anyway, this is one of the only non-wood kitchens that he likes.

I know that the obvious recommendation would be to hire a professional. I've already asked DH and that's a definite no-go. It's up to me and I have never decorated beyond a can of paint and new cushions. Please help!
