Anyone ever heard of these granites?

My KD has told me about a granite she's used, white candelabra (sp?), but none of the granite places I've gone to (or researched on the web) have ever heard of it. I'll probably go to the home she's done before to see it. I know some of the names are almost meaningless & vary from place to place, but I'm hoping one of you has heard of it. Any opinion?

Then I saw a slab in a granite place called Vermont White, though it has a lot of gray in it? If you've seen it I'd like to get some opinions.

Finally, I got a sample of Classic White (that's what they called it. It looks a lot like marble, mostly white & some gray veins & lots of sparkle - I don't know if that's mica in there, or what. I took a sample home & spilled some Diet Coke on it (my drink of choice) and left it for about an hour. The marble stained yellow, and stayed stained! I want to thank you GW folks for suggesting that the granite should be tested for staining before buying. I really loved this granite & probably would have bought it and would not have thought to test it.

have you checked out the white granite thread? there are lots of white patterns discussed there and some pictures.

It is very hard to know what granite you're buying when they do call them different things at different places and even call some things granite that isn't. I'm really really surprised that there isn't more of an industry standard.

in any case, glad you figured out the staining issue. That would have been horrible if you got that granite especially being a big coke drinker!

I had BA in my last kitchen. No issues with it at all. Absolutely loved it. There is a lot of mica in it. Perhaps the slab that crumbled had an enormous amount of mica in it and it caused an issue. If you can go look at the slab they are going to use, I would highly suggest it. BA varies a lot. We are building a new home right now. I did consider the BA again, but all the slabs I saw had a lot of pink to them. I had slabs with brown, taupe and gray in them. That is what I liked.

Definitely not Tropic Brown. TB is a tighter pattern that this one. This one is kinda like uba tuba in pattern, but with black, brown, and gold. I have still yet to see it at another granite yard. Another one I like - Brown Pearl - I can only find that at one granite shop as well. I hate the thought of that bc then that particular granite yard has ya!

Any idea what the ingredients are? People do grow in 100% compost so it's not unheard of. Depending on the composition, it can cause problems like crusting (which sheds water). And it will shrink as it continues to decompose. I would add topsoil either now or next year to replace the shrinkage, and that will help create a balanced mix. You could always do an experiment: add soil now to one bed and not to another and compare how they do.

It is unfortunate that two brands are getting mixed up and nobody is clarifying that. All manufacturers use, China, cambodia, etc. LW Mountain has had a lot of issues when our company used them. LW Flooring which is an entirely different company has not given us any issues with their product. The one issue we did have was due to the utter disregard from the shipping company that we use. LW was quick to replace our mater that was damgeddamaged in shipping and sent us a few boxes extra just in case. LW Flooring has been a great company compared to LW Mountain.
