What's the new trend in Upholstery fabric for the eclectic home?
Comments (8)It would be easier to say what I wouldn't use for upholstery fabric! :-D Burlap-like, Suzanis, bird motifs, animal prints, have all had their day IMO. However, unless you want to continue to reupholster furniture every year or every other year it's wise to use an upholstery material that is either classic or that you love enough to not care whether it's trendy or not. Stay away from anything you perceive to be trendy and we likely all have a different take on that. I would only use Suzanis in pillow covers if I loved them as they are currently overdone IMO. Some fabrics I like for seldom used furniture are quilted (think movers' quilts) or oversize thick knitted fabric as it's not been too overdone *maybe*. Unique woods are very big right now so a fabric printed to resemble woodgrain might be coming on trend. Artisan/organic is still trendy for next year altho if you google "trends for 2013" you'll see the usual wide range of CYA ideas including everything I've excluded above. One current trend I like are large scale florals which could be long lasting. Could you post a pic of the chair? Might help to get ideas as to what would be a good upholstery material for that style. I think single chairs are one of those pieces that can be a unique accent and can be done very differently from the rest of one's furniture. At least that's what I'm planning for my most recent acquisition chair. Some thoughts I've had for my chair are a zebra or cowhide pattern (I know, overdone!), a dark/rust red microfiber (I use red accents occasionally), or a patchwork with upholstery samples I already have in all my accent colors (at the moment the top choice). My chair will be painted so that's another consideration for me and so far I can't decide on the color. I'm also limited by cats who think upholstered furniture is their personal scratching post so there are only certain types of fabrics that are safe from them. However if you have fewer limitations than I do there are many choices. You could always "create your own fabric for something totally unique that may never seem out of style." Remember "if something isn't in style, it can't go out of style" - one of Magnaverde's rules....See MoreI like eclectic, but if this is professional, it feels like a miss
Comments (50)I don't think it's really fair to compare the 2 spaces. One is a loft with a modern vibe, and the other is much more traditional style rowhouse. While I think there are problems with the first one, I'd still probably choose it to live in over the second. I could fix the issues. Whereas the second one is less to my taste, and making it more my taste would probably ruin it in the opinion of others....See MoreHelp Selecting Modern-Eclectic Livingroom Furniture
Comments (6)These were my final recommendations, including the lamp you recommended @havingfun. So, we will see what he ultimately decides. The couch we’d already purchased and the tv stand, we liked so much, he bought it today. The mid-century coffee table for the clean lines, the color that ties in with his bar without being too matchy and the style fits in with the mid century design we did in his bedroom. This very beautifully patterned rug which had hints of gray to hide the dogs hair when it’s shedding. I also think it’s a nice pattern to anchor the space. The livingroom, kitchen and dining space are all open to each other. Chose this dining table and dining chairs because I like that it has the wood at the base without being too much wood. I thought this was important because it will be right next to the bar. Also, like the plastic surfaces as they need to function as a painting/art space for his 6 year old daughter. Oh! And teal is his favorite color. Fabric barstools to add some warmth to the kitchen/dining area that is not more wood. For accessories, I recommended @havingfuns lamp in gold. Everything else including greenery, throw pillows and drapes, I plan to get locally. He already owns lots of awesome art and nicknacks to decorate as well....See MoreWhat Flooring would you put in this eclectic sunroom?
Comments (12)Sun fade might be an issue with wood floors. I think the porcelain wood plank tiles would be my choice. How is the room heated in winter? You can do under floor heat with the tile. I agree there is a lot going on here, especially the multiple rugs. Once you put in the new floors, leave it bare for a while and be judicious when bringing items into the space. Since you obviously water plants here you might like a washable rug from ruggable.com. Lots of good reviews and plenty of looks and sizes. Consider installing a shelf around the window perimeter of the room so you can open up the floor space, yet have plenty of spots for your plants....See Moredes_arc_ya_ya
