Keyed lock on interior garage door?
Comments (20)Our last house had locking hardware with a keypad on the garage side for ease of getting in and out. We always kept it locked as an extra precaution, not just for extra security in addition to the garage door, but also to provide barrier in the case we forgot to close the garage door for the night when coming home late (happened more than I'd like to admit). The keypad allowed the door to always be locked, but we didn't have to worry about locking ourselves out if we didn't bring the key and it was slightly easier to unlock while holding onto our things. I guess I would also judge your exposure to break-ins in your area. Where we live we have a greater likeliness of a burglary than the typical suburb so we have put as many impediments to getting into our house as possible. In some areas that may be overkill. But even then there is a definite advantage to being slightly more secure (and visibly so) than your neighbors....See MoreInstall a lock with key on both sides on my Andersen 400 Door ?
Comments (4)Thanks everyone for your answers/input. As it turns out, the person who installed the door did not know how to properly install the lock mechanism ACTUATOR, which triggers the standard dead-bolt lock that came with the door handle set. Because of this, the door would not lock at all! Now that we figured this out (and the deadbolt lock) does work (it locks the door) when you pull the handle upwards, it looks like there is no need to add anything else....See MoreGremlins stole my car keys.
Comments (31)Saying that the last time you saw them the atmosphere was chaotic is not a good thing, one time I threw out an important receipt during a time of great distraction, and after searching high and low I steeled myself to go through my garbage bag, there it was, eww. Are you able to relax and think back to remember what had occurred the last time you had those keys. Distinctly remember placing them on that mat, or maybe at the last minute decided to put somewhere else over the holidays? My keys, my purse, and my watch have distinct 'holding' spots, and occasionally I take off my watch in the bedroom and leave it on the dresser, but the next day when I need it and go over to the usual spot in the kitchen for it, it won't be there and in my panic I'll momentarily forget the other spot. So I try to stick to the same ONE spot for special things. I've also been known (only to me) to hide special things in the house (like the kids S.I.N. #, special money etc) then not be able to recall where I've hidden it. Then we moved and I rediscovered it, not a help in your situation. And as life will have it, you will have bought the new ones and then you'll come across the originals - hope not! Good Luck and success....See Morecountertop color to hide dust...-white or marble looking quartz
Comments (23)We have Corian ... it's around forty years old and looks pretty much the same as ever. It's not plasticky, but it certainly doesn't feel like the granite on our island either. It's a nice, smooth, non-porous surface and super easy to clean. We even had accidental sharpie bleed through, and it came off with SoftScrub; you'd never know it ever happened. There might be a few marks where the point of a knife hit, but I couldn't tell you were those are. You shouldn't cut on your countertop, anyways; it's terrible for your knives, but yes, there's always a chance the knife runs off the edge of the cutting board or something, so it is something to consider. Corian can be sanded or micro sanded to remove cut marks if they're not too deep; we've never had to. Our Corian is white with cream marbling (no names back then ... you just picked white, cream, or white/cream marbled), and it doesn't show dust; it will show crumbs and such. The polished black granite island shows everything, especially fingerprints. I don't mind seeing dust and crumbs, since we'd rather know they're there to be cleaned up, but the fingerprints are annoying. We have the same Corian in one bathroom (counter and sink) that looks great and cleans great there, too. The other bathroom has white Corian, it has a dent from where something fell, but other than that no issues with it either. I'd get Corian again. My sister's granite counters are classic cream and brown speckle, and they always look great despite toddlers and cats and whatever they knock over. They have to be cleaned constantly (toddlers, cats ...), but a quick wipedown is all it takes. If you get on just the right angle you might find some toddler prints, but the pattern seems to hide them....See Moreoilpainter
