Love love love Mike Holmes. A friend of mine met him here in Canada and she was awed at how sincerely nice he was he really is a good guy.

I , used to watch a lot of HGTV's programs. Holmes on Homes and Divine Design are the only ones I ever bother with now. Mike Holmes is just a fantastic contractor and so great about doing the job right that I can't resist his progams!

Oh, I am going to have to watch this. After everything we've been through, everyone always says, "You should call Mike Holmes!"

He has a new show now called Holmes Inspection...same format as Holmes on Homes, not sure why they changed the name of the show...anyone know?

We don't get his new show here in the US. Believe me, I've looked.:) As I understand it, the Holmes on Homes we get was his old show. Some of the ones we get as "new" are actually from 2005. Canada is lucky to get current shows, which is the Holmes Inspection.

Is is possible to watch Mike Holmes on line? My daughter doesnt have a TV but watches Grey's Anatomy on her computer, plus some other shows.

The current Holmes on Homes that is being aired on HGTV has been coming on TLC for years and in the U.S. Not sure about the new show.

Yes, that's where we used to watch it but they stopped running any new shows. Then they put the same ones on HGTV.

Now, at least, HGTV will be showing new to us.

On the newer shows Holmes Inspection, basically he goes in and does a home inspection and then compares that to what the actual home inspector did and then he sends his crew in to fix it. No more new shows on now though. Just re-runs.

I LOVE me some Mike Holmes. And DH loves the show, too. What is it about Canada -- all their home shows and hosts are better than ours!

I really appreciate Mike Holmes. I agree that we all wish that all contractors had his ethics and drive to do a great job, not just a 'good enough' job. I even got DH to watch an episode with me the other night -and he has NO interest in anything related to home repair, construction etc. He does appreciate good workmanship and honesty.

Their shows are better because on OUR shows, youre not allowed to be over 30.

I absolutely LOVE Mike Holmes. Sorry gals, I don't fall in the category of "that kind" of love. He's a handsome man, but... LOL. However, seriously, I'd give my left arm to have him accompany me in our home building process and EVERY little change we'd ever make!!! :)

I had never heard of this show until I read about it here. Just finished watching several reruns...wow...interesting.

So scary about the shoddy work that he uncovers. He would definitely be the bomb to have on your team.

I started watching Holmes on Homes a few years ago but I always wondered about something. One thing I was never clear on is, do the people who he helps have to pay for his redo or the material or does the show furnish everything?
In prior years, in order to go into construction work in So.Cal. you had to join the union. Then, you would start at the bottom and through an apprentice program you would learn different crafts, take a state exam, and become licensed in that particular craft. You could stay in one craft, like a finish carpenter, framer, painter ect. or learn another skill or with the correct amount of time on the job and the correct licenses become a general contractor. Now, although California still has a law that requires anyone doing work costing over $500, labor plus material, to have a state contractors license, the law is not enforced. There is nothing to stop anyone doing anything, and they do. Unfortunately, construction has been taken over by transient day laborers.

For Canadians who enjoy Mike Holmes, there is a new episode of Holmes Inspection on tonight on HGTV.

someone...I wondered about the cost too so I looked it up. The show pays for all of Mike's time and that of his crew. The owners pick up the cost of materials but no labor. Great deal if you can get it. I feel so sorry for the duped owners, many of whom have spent all their savings on a remodel, so even paying for materials must be painful...but after Mike finishes the piece of mind has got to be priceless.

His new to us (in the US) shows are being broadcast on Sunday nights on HGTV.

He sure shows that minimum code, in most areas, doesn't amount to much. We have the same problem that the last show's owners had. The two bedrooms that are over the garage in our new build are so much colder than the rest of the house.

When we had our 12 month walk-through with our builder's rep, and mentioned that fact, he replied "I have a xyz built house and we use space heaters"

It must be a popular show, because it's on A LOT now. I think the types of situations he fixes are things everyone has either experienced to some degree, or fears they will experience.

My husband & I always say how fun it would be to see Mike actually come face-to-face with the original contractors!

I like the show but I am getting tired of seeing him on all the time. I also can't understand why HGTV is buying so many Candian shows. The days of flamboyant realtors is still going strong but I do wish they would get back to showing something a little fresher. I'm also tired of Sabrina Soto. Haven't they got anyone else? Just my opinions!

One of the reasons I don't fantasize about getting a remodel is because having seen this show, I don't know that I'd trust any contractor to do it right AND finish the job.

On a lighter note, I used to work with a pool contractor who had a crew of guys who looked like Abercrombie models. When I asked him why all his employees were so uniformly young and attractive, he told me it was because that way housewives were happy when the job took longer than promised and didn't call the company to complain. I thought he was crazy, but I was 18 then. Now that I'm a middle-aged housewife....I think he had a point! Pitcher of lemonade, boys?
