i like both, although i think the clear might look better with gray siding...

also, my understanding of bugs lights: the bugs need a white light to go to relatively nearby and will then avoid the yellow colored light...but, will go to the yellow if that's the only light around...??? that's how it was explained to me at a lighting store one time.

I really like them, probably because I have similar ones at our cabin.:) I prefer the white.

Just a heads up: Is the bottom open? The ones we have are and we have problems with wasps building nests inside them, but that could also because of the lack of regular human activity there. I looked the lights up and couldn't tell from pictures on lighting sites.

Also, if you decide to get them from Arcadian Lighting (usually the cheapest and their customer service is great), make sure to sign up email and they'll send you a coupon.

Thank you for your quick replies and info on bugs! I think I'll call Artcraft to see if they can tell me. They probably are open - -I hate wasps!

Of course the amber is cheaper too, but oh well. We're already sliding down the slippery slope with this reno... :)

Speaking of looks only, I would like the amber better if it is very woodsy and ungroomed in back. If your landscape is tame and open, I'd prefer the clear.

I think the white would look better with your gray siding. We only know about the gray siding. Maybe there's something else on the house that you're thinking the amber complements or connects with?

I've decided white is the way to go. And thanks deeinohio, b/c now I'm looking for lights w/o the open bottom....only problem is that there's surprisingly not that many! I may just pick one up at HD or Lowes, b/c it takes almost as much time surfing the web, then calling the mfger (b/c the pix and specs usually don't mention this fact). I just need to cross this off my checklist.

Bella: Do you think your DH could fashion some kind of metal net in the bottom? We're too lazy to do that, but maybe you're not. :)

Tin snips and a scrap of screen fabric and you should be able to fashion a net for the bottom quite easily.

Glad you decided on the white to go with gray siding and brick. You said your house is traditional so you might want to look for lights that aren't as craftsman in style.
