The camera I can work with was dropped adn only takes fuzzy photos now and my new one won't work, so I can't post a ohoto right now. We have trhe Perlick drawers in our breakfast room, and they hold a lot more than I expected. Right now, I have a gallon of milk, a gallon of OJ, 3 half gallon containers, a number of other juices and chocolate milk, a 6 pack of juice cartons for lunches and the rest of a pound of coffee. The bottom drawer has beer, water bottles, juice pounches, yogurt and some soda (soda cans will stack 2 high so you could put a couple of cases in there). Holds a LOT more than my dorm fridge did and it's easier to get to. You would be limited on putting trays or certain large things in there (watermelon, turkey -- don't know if they'd fit), but I would think most things would work. Some models will hold tall bottles -- 2 liter soda, wine, champagne, etc. Others will not. Check it that is important to you. If it will be your only fridge, make sure it's up to the heavier use, whether drawers or a door style. Many of them seem to be built with more occassional use in mind. That was one of the reasons we went with Perlick -- we knew ours would be used many times every day.

I feel strongly in favor of the 24 inch wide fridge drawers for usable space. I would find 15 inches not worth the trouble. And shelves v. drawers? No contest. Drawers are so easy. I am too old to get on my knees to look at the bottom 2 drawers. It's only 9 inches different. I have Elux drawers-pricey at 2k but a big splurge and very, very worth it. Also, there is no worry about door clearance. Now, where do you find the 9 inches? I don't remember your plan, but, what width are your pantry pullouts? I have 2 pullouts, each 15 inches wide. My pullouts replaced a 36 x 24 black hole pantry. I have way more groceries now, then before. Each pantry door of mine can pull 450 pounds. If your pantries are wider, they may not be able to pull all the stuff. Marcolo, I know you are a two person household, and I bet dollars to donuts that I have more pantry crap than you. We are now a 2 person family but I have not yet come to terms with the fact that my 'teenage' son is now 51 yrs. old and I don't have to feed him daily. My dh and I are very frugal and we buy way too much stuff, b/c it's on sale. Just today, I tossed 3 cans of tomato stuff that was 2 yrs. out of date. I buy groceries for planned but still imagined dinner parties, probably never to happen (deteriorating health)! You have real dinner parties so you use up the food. Check your drawings and tell me the width of pantries. And that's just one place to look for space.

I'm in the same situation so I feel your pain. There are 2 of us and we have a 36" counter depth and a 24" floor to ceiling pantry with no pull outs and both are crammed. However I would not give up the pantry space since it's the only cab in the kitchen that holds food. I think they key to the fridge is the config. Ours is a side by side and I HATE it. Always have to rearrange things. Not enough room for something wide like a platter or left over pizza in a box, or beverages, but a French door would solve a lot of that and that will be my go to next time. If I had the space I would do a standard depth and box it in for more of a built in look. If you have another fridge in the basement I don't think an under cab fridge adds anything unless it's a dedicated beverage center. It will just be another fridge to rearrange, another energy draw, and another appliance that could go bad and then you have to find a replacement in the same size. We have a pantry cabinet in our attached garage just outside our laundry room and it's great for holding extra canned goods and bottled goods, but I still wish I had more pantry space for opened items, condiments, etc. No room for an extra fridge, but I think a French would be a big improvement. Do you have pantry space in the basement near your 2nd fridge? Also there are a lot of instant wine chiller gizmos out there. Please let us know which way you go. I learn so much from these posts.

We're a family of five. We eat lots of produce and I cook at least once a day. I bought a CD Electrolux all fridge a few years ago and don't regret it. The one thing it doesn't fit well is a box of those huge 16" take-and-bake pizzas. I have to remove them from the box or clear a shelf that doesn't have a door shelf across from it when closed. My produce may overflow the available space in my drawer for a day or two, but that's not really an issue. I really love that it doesn't intrude on my aisle because the fridge location in this house is stupid. FWIW, my fancy Gaggenau oven doesn't fit those pizzas, either. I have to cut them in half. I wouldn't trade my oven for one that did. It's my precious.
