Schoolhouse pendants over island: How big and how high?
Comments (5)I have one Rejuvenation Baldwin pendant over my island (actually it's centered in the 12 x 15 foot kitchen), which is toward the end of the island. I toyed with putting in 2, but with that much light, it would be overwhelming. My island is 45 X 67. I initially wanted to center it over the island, but didn't want to tear up that much of the ceiling to do so. This particular pendant can take up to 300 w bulbs. I tried one of those and found it super bright in such a small space. I went with a 150 watt CFL and love that. In fact, with being used to the old single light, I find that sometimes I just work with the UCL and the overheads off completely. I think these initially were designed to replicate those gorgeous schoolhouse fixtures that hung from ceilings of larger warehouse buildings, down into the room. So, I thought, how could this fit in my small kitchen? But, you know what, it really works in that small space! My ceilings at 9 foot and it hangs down 33 inches total from the ceiling. It doesn't feel too big with the 12 inch shade, and my taller friends don't seem to notice it at all. byw, I'm just under 6 foot myself. I still haven't adjusted the chain properly as I've been unsure of the height, but I think I'm ready to take off the extra chain and leave it where it is. Here's a shot of it- its early morning here so it's hard to get a great shot on my IPhone with the light on, but you get the idea.... Comments (3)I had this exact faucet in my last home & liked it. I had the same thoughts as you as far as a pull down spray. In my current home I wanted only ONE hole, so I went with the pull down spray & I'm so glad I did. I really like it. Your installer should know the correct spacing....See MoreHow far apart should 2 chandeliers be hung over a dining room table
Comments (3)It depends how high you are planning to hang the chandelier. The standard is 66" from the floor and in that height you want to make sure the chandelier is not too close to the diners that seat at the head of the table. I would recommend to leave around 22"-23" from the edge of the table to the chandelier from each side unless you are planning to hang the much higher as shown in the picture above. Comments (14)What you should do is place the pendants absolutely centered on the island but place them 1/3 of the way in from the seating area. Then place a high hat directly above your sink for good task lighting. That's what I did and it works beautifully. Those sitting at the island get good lighting and you working at the sink get good lighting and no one will ever notice if it's slightly off because no one ever stands exactly dead center looking....See Moresjhockeyfan325
