Problem with stair railing....need a pros help.
Comments (3)Home Depot sells some open celled poly backer rod (in the aisle with the rest of the window/door weatherstrip, shrink plastic, etc). There are 2 diameters, looks like the small one would be perfect. Shove some in the gap, then caulk with a good quality caulk. Ive had luck with OSI Quad (also available at Home Depot). Use disposable gloves, wet a finger of one with mineral spirits or paint thinner, caulk the gap and then "tool" it with your finger, to give a nice smooth bead. Vulkem by Tremco would also be a good alternative (I just got an applied sample from them, and I can twist it 360 degrees and it doesnt tear off.....pretty nice), but its a little harder to find. -Chris...See MoreFunky Stairs need Hand Rail Ideas
Comments (48)I understand that OP needs it to be cheap until closing because this is a lender requirement (not unusual) and if it is fixed before closing, it becomes a fixture and stays with the property even if the buyer doesn't close. CONSIDER: A solution to this would be a rehab type loan rather than the typical purchase loan. Benefit to the buyer is they don't need to resort to expensive hard money type loan as mentioned up thread. Also it gives the buyer the TIME to figure out a permanent solution. The buyer can close right away on a rehab loan. The disadvantage to a rehab loan is that the interest rate is slightly higher than your typical purchase mortgage. Something to explore....See MorehlHelp with ideas for freshening up old stair rails
Comments (0)We are doing a house renovation and addition that was started due to a kitchen slab leak. I am not sure what to do about these stair railings. I need some ideas on how to freshen up these stair rails. Carpet and walls will be changed out too. I'm open to ideas for replacements as well, but we are going to be in a tight budget due to having overages and other issues we found with the house that has to be fixed....See MoreNeed help with replacing porch railing
Comments (4)@houssaon I’d be surprised if they are decorative only. I’ll probably add posts up front. Not sure how that will all work with vinyl railing. May have to hire it out....See Moresombreuil_mongrel
