I'm not sure from your drawing, but moving the toilet to the wall on the right as you did above might be a more expensive plumbing proposition. In Brickton's version, with the toilet along the top wall, that's where your tub is now, right? So there's already a drain line for the tub which could hopefully be changed to the toilet drain line fairly easily; moving it to the other wall might be more expensive. Do your floor joists run horizontally or vertically in the above drawing? I'm sure someone more expert in plumbing will be able to chime in and tell you whether this is an issue or not. The other concern I have with your version above is that the divider wall may make the whole room feel small, since you're basically dividing the room into three very small areas: shower, sink, and toilet. There's a long narrow corridor to the sink, and someone standing at the sink is less than 3' from the feet of someone sitting on the toilet -- so there's not a lot of privacy gained for two people in the room at the same time, in my opinion. I believe code requires a minimum of 30" in width for the toilet, and I can't tell from the drawing if you have that much space -- and I think it will feel pretty cramped in there if the space is less than 36" wide. Brickton's layout doesn't have those issues. Again, just my opinions. -- Eric

If you ever need to clean the vent/fix the machines/mop up water etc... if is easier to access the machines if there is not a cabinet directly over them. I have had several configurations of corner cabinets and I am over them! What seems like a good way to utilize space ends up making the existing facing cabinet so small it is unworkable. Not to mention the severe hassle when something gets dumped off the lazy susan. I would do the straight run that does not sit on the counter. If you also wanted to do floating shelf over window or rod over window you can It just wont be connected to cabinets and that is ok.

Everything should be to the same scale. What's better, and preferred, is a fully-measured layout with all dimensions clearly labeled of the space under consideration. Please see the New to Kitchens? Thanks for your thoughts and comments. @Fori - There is definitely a filler piece there. We actually did investigate moving the DW to the other side of the sink, but that came with other issues that were much less appealing. Again, because of constraints out of my control, this is definitely the best layout. I don't have an issue with using my mud porch as a pantry or microwaving and toasting in there. I'm pretty good with keeping areas clear of crumbs and messes. That chimney hood is one of my favorite things about this new kitchen. I guess I'm going to have to hope it doesn't make my cabinets look dinky or choppy. At least to me - I'm old enough so that I don't particularly care what others might think about it. I'm happy to hear it's a generally decent layout. @herbflavor - I probably should have included that we're not getting a disposal because I don't want one. Took me a bit to convince our contractor of that fact! But after going my entire life without, and having one in my last 2 kitchens (we put one in our remodel a decade ago, and one came with another house we bought since then) I'm totally over it. I was originally so excited to have a garbage disposal, but in the end I personally don't care for it and never use it. I know that I'm certainly in the minority on this, but my feelings are pretty set. I tend to gather my trash and scraps in a receptacle on my counter while cooking and then either take it immediately outside to the garbage can, or put it all in the trash under the sink. It depends on what's involved - smelly stuff outside right then, other stuff can wait under the sink. I'm definitely giving thought to the best way to organize my under sink area with all of it's extra room (36" wide cabinet with no disposal - woo hoo.) I'm curious if anyone has thoughts on what to store in base drawers?
