How many kitchen workers are there? Cook(s)? Cleanup? Helpers? Now? Future? (E.g., if you have young children, plan for them as teens for both "sizing" of seating as well as helping in the kitchen in general) How do you see your kitchen used? Just for cooking/cleaning up? Children doing homework while you cook? Do you entertain a lot? Formal? Informal? Do you want your kitchen to be a "hang out" place? Parties only? Everyday? Do you plan to have a separate DR? Do you plan to use it frequently? Infrequently? Formal entertaining only? Would you like the kitchen to be open to adjacent areas? Close it up? Where are you flexible? Window(s) to the counter? Several inches above? > Does the sink have to be centered under a window? Does it have to be under a window at all? Note: The more constraints you put on a space (e.g., sink centered under a window), the fewer options there are. So, be sure any limitations/constraints you mention are true constraints. Do you bake? Do you want a coffee/tea/beverage center? What appliances do you plan on having (helps to figure out work flow, work zones, and types of cabinets...upper/lower vs full height, etc.) Range or Cooktop? Single or Double or no Wall Oven? Warming Drawer? MW? (Advantium, MW Drawer, OTR MW/Hood, countertop, built-in, shelf?) DW? Standard or drawers? If drawers, 1 or 2? Refrigerator (Top/bottom freezer, SxS, or all-fridge/freezer? Counter-depth (CD), standard-depth, or built-in?) Ventilation Hood (range hood)? Other? Sizes of desired appliances (e.g., 30" or 36" or 48" cooktop; 36" or 42" or 48" wide or other Refrigerator? Counter depth or standard depth refrigerator, etc.) Pantry: Walk-in or cabinets? In the Kitchen or outside the Kitchen (e.g., Mudroom or hall) ***** Very Important ***** Is there anything you: Can't live without? Definitely don't want? Would like if you can find a way? Look at the kitchens of a few of your neighbors houses. Take notes as to what types appliances they have in their kitchens. Take this information to the Kitchen Forum along with a floorplan of your home, including pantries, doorways and windows. Let them give you some general ideas of what may be accomplished. You may also want to consult with an independent kitchen planning consultant for help. We can give you lots of specific ideas about appliances, brands and features of appliances and the best use of appliances. But, we will need to first assess the space and basic requirements. While many on the forum have experienced children that go through strange food stages, we generally love to cook. We also tend to be kitchen and appliance obsessed. This means the convenience foods you are currently serving to your family are classified as emergency foods. They are not the primary types of foods we feed to our families. Even a substandard kitchen can produce good, healthy food. It can be done on a budget and it can be done quickly. A challenging kitchen just doesn't do it as nicely or efficiently as it could be done. Do not take this a criticism, but it seems foolish to make the effort and spend a lot of money on equipment that won't be used or appreciated. If you continue to feed your children a diet of frozen chicken nuggets and pizza, they will never learn to experience the full range of nature's bounty. Learning to eat well and appreciate food is a life-long process and the foundation is laid early in life. May I suggest you subscribe to one of the weekly meal delivery services and commit to cooking two or three meals a week from scratch. I use one and I have found it to be both educational, convenient and budget friendly. It would expose your family to foods that they otherwise might not experience. If you put it in front of them enough, they will eat eventually. Also, this might help you to determine what kind kitchen is needed. I use Green Chef, they are entirely organic. They have family meal options, too. There are any number of these services available to suit every need.

I think you have your aisles reversed. You need a wider work aisle--42" counter-to-counter minimum, but a passage with no appliances can be as narrow as 36". I'd make the work aisle 48", and the passage 48-54", depending on the cabinet configuration of the island. NKBA guidelines Is that a pantry door opening to the left of the fridge? DW to the right of the clean-up sink? Where do you plan to store your dishes?

Coming from a momma with four kiddos who also lives on acreage. Please know I'm not tearing apart this plan I'm just pointing out things that I know I would want. Also I do not know what part of the country you are in. We live in Minnesota so messy cold wet snowy things we need a spot to dump them(voice to text). We also have lots of dirt and gravel and that sort of thing. -First off I would want an entrance directly from the outdoors, that's a family entrance with a large closet, either open or closed lockers lots of Boot & Shoe storage. -With five kiddos I would prefer laundry near their bedrooms. -I would not want a laundry walkthrough from the garage ALTHOUGH a 2nd laundry for dirty barn clothes near family entrance is wonderful! No extra carrying of messy clothes to laundry. My laundry room is never pinterest-worthy ;) and I like to be able to shut the door not think about that :) - master bedroom closet, I do not see one. - Closet in your entryway. Again I'm not sure what part of the country are in so maybe you don't need to have storage for company's coats but you do have a big extended family so?? Would you be having hooks on the walls or??? - do you need a bathroom that your Ranch hands use or is that in one of your outbuildings? - I love the idea of an office space with books, I would think of it more as a library do you think that you would utilize that space with all that desk area or would you rather have it a reading Nook? Absolutely love using two 30 inch ranges. In my opinion it is the perfect way to get a 60 inch range for an excellent price point.
