This is the only website, where I've encountered any discussion about Asymmetrical Lazy Susans and the dreaded tight kitchen corner. Is the asymmetrical lazy susan a better option over the 33" lazy susan and/ or the blind corner cabinet? I know on paper, it should provide more visibility and accessibility, but does it, enough to make a difference? How much wider is the opening compared to the 33" lazy susan or 42" blind corner, exactly (my blind corner has a 12" opening)? Bottm line, is an asymmetrical lazy susan an improvement over other, not very good options? Is anyone aware of the possibility of custom asymmetrical lazy susans where a leg maybe up to 42" long? What would be the pros and cons of say a 42" x 32" asymmetrical cabinet? Does anyone have experience with this kind of cabinet, seen one in person? It's like pulling teeth to get any information. If it was a solution, you'd think it would be in demand and I'd find positive reviews from all the people who loathe blind corners and don't have an opening large enough for a pull-out. I have searched the internet and found nothing, no reviews or marketing, and one lonely image. I didn't even find much of anything for the 36/33 (alt 33/36) which I know is available from several name brands. I am just puzzled as to why there seems to be no consumer awareness. Thank you for the replies. Desert Steph, I saw those in a magazine, as a stack of drawers. Very clever use of the space. Eliz, I looked into all of those fancy pull outs (Haelfe and Knape/Voit,) but they are not really big enough for using with a 48" cabinet. They appear to be created for a 36" cabinet. I hadn't thought about the head banging, but I would be down on my knees anyway to access the pull outs I have. I really liked how much usable space that there was with arlosmom's pull outs from the blind corner. I would use that space for crock pot, vases, etc. I wish that I could swing the mixer out of the way (I do use it once a week, and it would be ok where it is, but countertop space is premium in my small kitchen. By the way, thanks for the compliment, Arlosmom, but I wouldn't have thought about this if I hadn't seen your drawers first! I just had another idea, but not sure if it is better - I don't love my microwave, because it takes up way too much counter space - much more than the mixer. It would just fit into the opening, and there is an outlet directly behind that cabinet on the back splash. It is 33 pounds, and the Rev-A-Shelf appliance lift has an adjustment for 30-60 pounds. I would Love to put it on the appliance lift, but am not sure if I would want to be under something so heavy while I accessed my crock pot/etc. We would use the microwave at least 6 times a day, and this would probably be crazy to do. Has anyone mounted a heavy small appliance (30+ pounds) onto an appliance lift? Thank you! Hestia_Flames

I'm pretty sure my husband and I don't have 73 of anything combined! ;) I do try to purge a minimum of twice a year, and I do rotate hanging clothes into the black hole (well put!) out-of-season. I do like the shelf idea that ShadesOfIdaho posted to my flickr page, though. Maybe I can do shelves on the bottom and hanging clothes over the top? I'm not hanging any ball gowns that require full-height hanging space. It's certainly not the worst house-related problem to have, that's for sure. But it is just odd that they built them this way in every single bedroom. Black Hole or not, the relatively generous closets are the main reason we are still able to live in our small house (no attic, no basement, no garage).

I like cpartist's suggestion. If you decide on a dead corner, are you accounting for 2-3" of filler on each side of the corner? You'll need that space so that drawers will not be in conflict with handles on the perpendicular run. The 19" cabs beside the range could be reduced to 18", and maybe the fridge could move a few inches to the right? Measure the items you want to keep in the drawers to decide on the better depth--a tall stockpot compared to casserole dishes. ETA, I have a blind corner beside a drawer base (2" filler, plus 1" exposed cabinet face because my cabinets are partial overlay). The 12" trash pull-out is in the perpendicular corner. I just measured, and the opening is a little over 11". In the blind corner I keep items that I don't need to access often--bulky plastic storage containers with covers, used mostly for pot luck picnics. I also keep empty glass jars in the front, since I can reach behind the extended trash can to retrieve those easily. To access the items toward the back, I have to remove the can and pop the trash can housing off the base runners, and get down on my knees--not convenient, but not a huge deal. However, I wouldn't want to store items that I need often, especially paper towels, which I might need in a hurry if I've used the last one to clean up a boiled-over pot. Of course, without the trash pull-out it would be much easier to access items in the blind corner. There is no actual cabinet in the corner, and the trash pull-out is not in a separate cabinet. I used cleats on the wall, to support the countertop, with a vertical 2x4 at the inside corner (beside the drawer base) for additional support, and built a deck in the open space to attach the trash can runners. I also built a face frame for the trash pull-out, and used a piece of trim to cover the 2x4. The DW is on the other side of the trash pull-out, so I used a 3/4" plywood panel between it and the open space, to support the countertop. I chose not to put a shelf, or a half-shelf, in the blind corner, but it would not have been difficult to add one. At the time I remodeled my kitchen I wasn't confident in my skill level, therefore I over engineered in several areas. The process wasn't complicated, and involved scrap wood I had on hand, but it took some time to cut and fit all the pieces--if you can DIY, then great, you can even decide how wide you want the opening, since it's not in a stock cabinet (but a contractor will charge for time spent on all the fiddly pieces.)
