Ok let me take a stab at this :) You have some nice pieces and while it does seem that you are trying to do "rustic elegant" :) maybe that's not it...but that's what I see. I like it, but I see some tweeks I'd like to play with... First of all...ummm how to say this....do you sleep alone? The reason I ask is because you only have one bedstand. The globe is pretty, but I'm not sure first that it ties into the room well except for tone and scale, but also, it's not a good bedside (functional or otherwise) bedside piece. I'd like to see instead a different table. Now the curtains...they do look lovely with the bedding, but I'd like to see the addition of a color from the bedding in a soft trim addition (perhaps a silk or satin ribbon added). I'd like to see either the green or burgundy added where the satin meets the sheers (this can be done easily by a seamstress or a handy sewer). Let it just lay over the taupe satin. Just a small bit, and then do the same for tiebacks, or add a nice big tieback in the color of the ribbon. I'd then like to see you pull the color to the pile of pillows on the bed just a bit more obviously (I see it in the sheets and trim, but let's add one pillow with burgundy and green color as an accent trim an taupe as the focal color). THe family photo's are all in modern frames...or mostly. I'd like to see you try to frame them over time in frames closer to the style of the pictures you have added to the room. The modern frames really don't go well with the decor you're shooting for. I'd also like to see some matting on the frames to increase the scale of the pictures and the arrangements. They're a beautiful family...show them off better :) I'd really like to see ya hide some of those stereo gee gaws. They flow like pudding you your pretty room. Can you tuck a few pieces ito any of the cabinets? (My DH would insist that this ruins the ability of the speakers to preform, blah blah blah....so do this when yours is not present...they still work just fine). Ok one other thing...any way to nix the trunk? It's very pretty...don't get me wrong, but the room feels too full and I thin some unencumbered space would help. Ok now for the part where you shoot me....nix the gun as well :) It's a lovely antique piece...but it's not a good bedroom piece (IMHO). Bedrooms should be romantic (yours is) and comfortable...safe and secure in a cozy way, not in an arsenol type of way. Show the piece off in your family or living room instead :) Or ship it to me for my library :OP I hope not to offend. You do have a lovely space! Just throwing out a few easy ideas you can take or throw right back at me :oP

Here's the linen color headboard and variations on a theme :) I switched over to a damask on the valance, tried the light curtains around the inner windows and on the outside of the nook (like the height better in virtual), tried dark panels around the bed, and! dark panels around the bed, lights around the windows and also framing the nook. Sheers are over the windows and the simplicity is soft and perfect (can put inexp rollers behind them for nightime privacy). Doesn't take away from the bed at all :) (I hope you don't have dust allergies with all this fabric!) #1 Linen colored headboard, silver sage all ceilings, wood floors. Wow, what a difference a colorful rug makes. I was wanting to add teal with the melon color for accent and the rug does it. Can I get a rug like that at houzz? Also like the wall color. Is it a mid-tone tan? What you've suggested here plus the smocked curtains Lurkkiirish suggested would work.

A pic could help. You could use a double rod that is as wide as your headboard and cover the blank wall on each side of the window with drape panels. You want to leave as much glass and natural light coming through as is practical. Put sheers on the inner rod so when you hang your rod near the ceiling, the blank wall between top of ceiling and window will be covered. If a valance as long as that blank space above the window is available, invest in that aw well for between the drape panels. If the symmetry still seems off, you could add a pair of mirrors with their frames the same color as the window frame and sized to visually appear to be a pair of narrower windows beside the original window that, together, all equal the width of your headboard so that even with the panels pulled open, you'd still see glass ... just mirror rather than window. Not my choice, but I've seen pics of this: You could put a rod all the way across the wall and cover the entire wall and window with drape panels pulling them open only at the window.
