You should be able to find similar lanterns at World Market and Pier 1. They will also have similar trays, balls and greenery.

I have that lantern (or one quite similar) that I got from Pier One. Another place to try is Home Goods, lots of inexpensive trinkets there!

Here is an example of how somebody tackled pictures with box molding (which is lovely by the way). Personally, I think that there is too much going on for my taste, but think that if the frames and artwork was more uniform it would look quite nice. The random placement doesn't bother me. Your room has a cozy comfortable feel, so think that the freestyle placement would suit it. You obviously have children, so maybe fill them with family photos.

Javachik & jillinj, I've been looking at Pier 1, World Market & Home Goods. I guess I just need to be patient to find the right lanterns. I haven't seen anything like the greenery and tray underneath the paintings yet, but maybe I'm not recognizing what they look like in person.

Kellienoelle, thank you for the pic with the gallery frames. I also like seeing the placement of chairs and sofa against the box frames for when we replace the sectional. Uniformity in frames and artwork would be easier for me to work with as well. Do you have a suggestion for what color frames? Color photos or black and white? Paint the box frames white again?

Yayagal and teacats, thanks for the links! Though, I'm afraid that at 12" width per panel, the art would be too small centered in my individual box frames. Each box frame is about 3 feet wide.

Sheilaaus122, the sectional was a craigslist find from 6 years ago! It is holding up really well considering the abuse it takes from my kids. It was made by Basset.

If you're going to hang 3 pictures of the same size in the frames, then perhaps you might want to consider doing something on your mantle that's not so symmetrical.

How about moving both of your candle holders to one side of the mantle. Place 3 hardcover books under the candle closest to the edge. On the other side of the mantle you might place a decorative clock or large ginger jar. Then add the low greenery in the center.

I normally would say black, however, with your moldings I think that white would look nice and wouldn't be so heavy as a grouping. Plus I didn't realize that those panels were 3 feet each...that is pretty large. I think a chunkier frame may be less visually busy (if that makes sense). I recently have bought some thickish whie ones from Michaels for a reasonable price (and they always have a sale!). For mine, the pic inside is 8" x 10" with the frame adding 2 inches on all sizes so fills some space. If you did something either black & white or sepia, it would look more uniform and read as a whole rather than a bunch of little parts. I think color could look beautiful as well, but that is for somebody more talented than I. I appreciate when others mix and match, but sadly don't have the confidence or talent to do it myself.

Monablair, I love the idea of symmetry on 1 side and asymmetry on the other. This so would not have occurred to me on my own! Thanks for the ideas on how to arrange my mantle if I go with a symmetrical wall behind my sofa.

One more thought.....perhaps a split canvas would be interesting in your room. Take a look at this link and you may find something that appeals to you. They are framelss so they wouldn't compete with the molding already there.

Does anyone have thoughts on a unified gallery grid with espresso frames and burlap mat behind my sectional?

It looks like I could hang 4 15" x 17" vertical frames in my middle box molding and 2 more equal sized frames in the adjacent moldings so that there are 2 horizontal rows of 4 if that makes sense.

Really pretty idea. My only concern would be that you're limiting the room colors to beige, tan and brown. That's such a spectacular wall that I think it needs something colorful, big and dramatic there. But that's just the way my decorating taste goes. Not everyone would agree with me..

Your mantle is going to have small/medium sized objects on it. Something large on the wall would offer more contrast..in color, size and texture.

Monablair-- I hear what you are saying on size. The area is so big and cluttered with moulding frames, I'm not sure how to do it. I would rather not go too strong with color b/c I'd like to be able to decorate seasonally without having to change out my art. And I do like neutrals...
