Remember that the first thing you need to do is make a list of each type clothing, so as to know what sort of storage is needed. IMO, the must/should haves: clear-front drawers. I prefer the stackable, ready-made transparent sweater, boot and shoe boxes. Not for boots and shoes but because they are perfectly sized for sweatshirts, sweaters, jersey/knit items as well as stockings and underwear. Anything that must be folded instead of rolled goes into the sweater boxes, one item per box. No searching, I can see where what is and I don't dig through a pile to get it. I don't press jeans, but do fold and roll carefully (one pair per boot box); bootflares are hung using pantsclips. BTW, I no longer use bureaus or chests of drawers -- that sort of furniture is not really useful. Minimum 1½" rod-length for each hanger. Suits should have enough space to hang the skirt/pants beside the jacket. There should be enough rod that you never have to shove clothing aside to remove or put back an item. Nothing should be hung that can be put into a drawer. Double-rods so that skirts/slacks are hung below the blouses. The rod for dresses/long skirts is high, and a set of deep cedar drawers is on the floor beneath (storage for extremely bulky winter wear). I wish I had used transparent instead of cedar. Hanging shoe-pockets so each pair has its own place. You may be happy with shoe drawers or a spinning rack -- just be sure there is a place for each pair. Hooks for jeans & shirt to wear again, (If it didn't get dirty, I honestly don't see the point of washing something that was only worn a couple hours. YMMV) Hooks for shoulder-bags. Clutch purses should go into transparent drawers. Full-length mirror. A small basket for nylons to be washed. DH has pull-out racks, one for ties and one for belts. Test-drive before buying to be sure they slide smoothly and are sturdy. Neighbor's recent closet update used shelves instead of the drawers, but retained the idea of one seeable item per shelf. She did get adjustables (a heavy sweater needs more height than a light-weight). She also used the shelf area above her head for bulky storage, again one item per container.

Wow. Never expected this to be such a popular topic. After reading the Young House Love blog, I WAS motivated to do some reorganizing of my linen closet. I keep towels, bathroom cleaning supplies, a hamper, and cosmetics/health & beauty stuff in ours. Sheets are in another, smaller hall closet. First, I checked the expiration dates on cold medicines, etc., and found a lot of stuff expired. That was easy to pitch. THEN, I looked at old make up, etc. (Much harder to part with, even though I haven't used some of it in ages...) Also pitched half-used bottles of shampoo I tried but didn't like, etc. It felt VERY wasteful. I went to the Christmas Tree Shop and bought 8 square baskets - 2 of 4 different sizes. (They actually nested inside each other.) Nearly $80. (A-Hem? For a BATHROOM CLOSET? Hmmm.) Took them home and was thankful they didn't really work to hold the stuff the way I had hoped. Returned them. Since I used to be a Longaberger Basket consultant, I have an attic full of baskets. I decided that, in the meantime, I would just grab some of those baskets and use them to corral my cosmetics, etc. It works, but isn't as neat as I'd like. I also have two plastic 'drawers' that I use. One small one has 3 little drawers - I use it for eye makeup and lipsticks. The other is bigger (about 8x10x16 deep) that I have cold medicines and anything else I don't know where to put. I guess the mix of plastic and baskets, to me, make the whole effect a little sloppy. While at the Christmas Tree Shop, I noticed photo boxes for $1.99. They stack neatly on top of each other and have a little metal label spot on the side. I may go back for those. Would especially work for stuff like first aid items and other things not used daily. So...if I ever get the closet looking 'photo' ready, I'll post a picture... Parsuzi. PS I also was taught the 'right' way to fold fitted sheets so they fold flat, but mine never look that nice. I don't generally put them on a table to fold, though. That might be the key.

Love your cabinets and what a deal. I love the re-store store! In our last house we had a tiny kitchen, but managed to modify a pantry to have pullouts plus a six inch space for broom closet along one side. I know a lot of people would say that's not enough space, but it was plenty for a broom, swiffer and a hand vac. You will love this space. If you order a cabinet, a face frame will narrow the space, though. You will likely also be limited on heights available. You could probably just make this cabinet with 3/4 panels if you want to go to the floor and order your doors separately. We used a 3/4 panel in this way and used angle brackets on the floor and ceiling (at the top ours was also attach to another wall cabinet, though.). The angle brackets on the floor were tiled over since we went down to the subfloor. The ones at top were hidden behind our frig. I think trimming it to the ceiling would look best and maybe find a way to bridge the top of your frig. It will link the two sides visually and give the frig a more built in space. Even if you just put a nice straight line valance with a plain bead at top like your cabs, stained to match, you would get that finished look. We had a cabinet bridging that space. Whatever you use, there may still be that little bit of space to slide a cookie sheet on top of the frig. That's what we did--we used every square inch! Now I'm planning our last dream house kitchen and I'm still wanting to use every last bit of space well. Hate those fillers unless they pull out :) Isn't it fun to find a use for the little spaces that others would just use filler of leave an empty space on the other end?!

Mine is the same size as Marti8a. I have a short rod inside the door (from the Container store, I think) that has holes for hangers. It is NOT an "over the door type rod" it does not hsow from the outside. I have a high rod for suits and pants, and a rod below it for blouses and jackets. Shoes are on the floor. Out of season clothes are upstairs and sweaters, etc. are under the bed.
