I like the style of the bottom right........but the ORB color (to the right of that pic) opposed to the black. I'm not crazy about "boob" lights but have one in my porch because of height issues and hockey sticks going in and out : )
From your pic of the foyer I don't think 13" should be too much of a drop but it might matter when you are bringing in/out items that are large!

I like the semi-flush mount. Don't do a flush mount and I think the hanging ones will be too low, they need a table underneath.

First, I love your house! I drool over woodwork like that.

Next, your foyer flushmount is the same fixture I have twice in my hallway and I absolutely hate them and want to replace them. Because it's a hallway with standard 8' ceilings I'll use flushmount.

Now maybe I'm not understanding something based on the other comments here, but I would do a hanging light over your table and I'd definitely do a hanging light in the foyer with your ceiling there being so high.

My inclination would not be to go to a modern looking fixture in either place, as I love those that would be more in keeping with the wonderful period of the house. Even though I do like the first one you featured. You have something special with that house that is not found in the newer houses, no matter how pretty they may be.

... and judging from the number of bids on many of them I'm far from alone.

Of course you can and should use a modern looking fixture if that's what you reallly want. :-)

Saskatchewan - I was thinking to myself last night they looked sortof like a boob! Actually, both fixtures from Restoration Hardware are dark bronze, not black.

Oceanna, thanks for the pics - my foyer does have 8 foot ceilings so that's why I'm looking at something flush. We're not real tall, and we do have hockey sticks coming in and out, but I was thinking I needed to stay with something flush.

I had to chuckle with you saying I needed something more antique to stay in period with my house. My poor house is just a basic 80's 4 bedroom 2 1/2 bath two story house! So while it's not a modern contemporary decor, it's not antique either. It's somewhere in the middle! I do tend to definitely lean towards the traditional style in my decorating.

Shappy, if I go with something semi-flush I'll have about 6'8" of clearance above someone's head! We don't know anyone that tall, but I was worried it would hang down too far. Although, flush mounted fixtures are all pretty lame.

Just have to say I was considering the same fixture by Murray Feiss in my dining room--that is until my DS said it looked like a peanut. That did it for me! I do like the RH ones with the little shades. I agree go for the lkush mount.

i like the semiflush for the foyer...and the one on the bottom right for the dining room. love that big glass marble at the bottom of it...

Caroleoh, I just saw your posts - I've been out and about all day! Anyway, I like your choices. I also looked at a version of the Marray Feiss Tuscan Villa for my foyer. I wanted to go without shades though and that style was too empty without the shades. I ended up with Capital Lighting Chatham Collection, I linked the 6 light version below. I really like the Restoration Hardware ones for your dining room. I like the one on the left because it is more timeless. I also like a semi-flush for the foyer if you don't think it will feel too low. They look nice in a foyer.

Have you been to a lighting store? They have tons of books and probably tons on display to look at. Good luck!

Have you considered just repainting the existing chandelier?
The bones of it is classic and nice, it's just the color that is dating it. I had a very similar brass one in my dining room, and I just got a can of rustoleum in an antique bronze/brown finish and redid it. Everyone compliments me on the "new" light, and it only cost me a few bucks! I can't take credit for the idea, though, since one of the guys at Lowe's suggested it to me.

I like the semi-flush fixture for your foyer. I always say don't use a flush mount unless you absolutely have to. They're usually just too boring! You should have plenty of clearance with 13" unless you entertain a lot of basketball players. A client of mine bought the RH fixture pictured on the bottom right -- her husband, who installed it, said he was surprised at how flimsy it seemed. But, it does look nice in their dining room. My only reservation about all of the chandeliers you've pictured is that I hate chains! -- But that's my own issue. Any of them seem like they'd probably work.

I like nccmama's suggestion of painting it in rustoleum. All of the styles you are looking at are really quite similar to the one you already have--other than the finish.

Your house is so lovely. I just went through the search for lighting for my own home. I strongly recommend that you check ebay for antique or vintage lighting--if you like that kind of thing. I posted awhile back, looking for advice, and many people told me that ebay was really one of the best places to go for lighting. They turned out to be absolutely right: after hours and hours and hours spent online looking for lighting--through antique lighting sites--I ended up purchasing all of my fixtures from ebay. MUCH better priced and really, really nice fixtures (in my view). That would also allow you to put something special in your home, rather than the usual contemporary stuff. If you prefer new, but with an old look, try Rejuvenation and Schoolhouse Electric, as well. Or perhaps Hubbardton Forge. :)

Oops. Actually, I bought 2 of them from goantiques.com, and another from trocadero.com. The others, however, I did buy from ebay. :)
