Does anyone else plant in mirror reverse?
Comments (5)How I order the chaos is with rather formal, geometric beds. They are symmetrical, more or less, though the axis of symmetry is parallel to the house, not perpendicular. Then the beds are planted in fairly normal, taller towards the back, fashion. Originally, the roses were arranged in the beds somewhat symmetrically, but over time some got larger than expected, others smaller, and more than one was asked to leave. Currently, about the only plants used that way are large ornamental grasses. What I find most interesting about the layout is that visitors immediately recognize it as a garden, even if the beds are full of weeds, or almost totally cut down....See Moreanyone else do any planting over Thanksgiving?
Comments (7)Planted over two dozen daffodils. Also emptied the compost tumbler. Dear daughter cleaned all the pine needles up in the doggie's potty yard, so they don't get pine needles stuck between their toes all winter. Dear husband made Thanksgiving dinner, dear son washed the dishes, so it was a very good day. Lot's to be thankful for. We got some colder weather right after Thanksgiving, so I thought I got the daffs in just in time, but today, our soil seems soft again. Lots of rain these past few days, that wasn't soaking in at first, but now it is. Now, I'm just dreaming of a white Christmas....See MoreDoes anyone else just not bother with a pantry?
Comments (39)What do I store in our pantry? Extra flour, sugar, etc - baking supplies. Extra canned stuff - we don't use a whole lot of it, but some canned stuff, like tomato sauce, is useful. Packaged soups. Cereal (my dh eats cornflakes every morning). Paper products - TP and paper towels. Extra cleaning supplies. We have an extra freezer - I freeze fruit and veggies - we grow a lot and I also buy it at the farm stands.I plan on starting to freeze milk this year. I prefer to freeze stuff rather than can it, so the freezer gets used! I'll be using our pantry/utility room storage more when we move to our new house since we'll be farther to affordable grocery stores than we were when we lived in our old house. When I go to the city, I'll mostly get stuff when it's on sale - buy 3 extra bags of flour if I see it at a great price, for instance. I also store extra kitchen equipment in the pantry - I have a food dehydrator that I store there, also canning supplies (I *do* can jelly). The pantry is my warehouse, I guess! I keep daily supplies in the kitchen, when we're running low on baking powder (for instance), I grab another can from the pantry, where I probably have at least 3 more cans - that I got on sale - stored. We don't have a pantry right now. It's temporary, thankfully....See MoreDoes the name "fabric conditioner" bother anyone else?
Comments (3)Actually professional laundries have long known that the use of fabric softener... conditions textiles. Giving fabrics a smoother feel. It also aids in ironing allowing fabric to lay better without curling around the edges and allowing the iron to glide easier over garments/linens. Softener or conditioner...regardless of what its called all does the same job....See Moreneetsiepie
