I cant see your pics (blocked at work), but horizontal pulls are usually done in a contemporary kitchen where the cabinets are frameless and have hidden hinges.

That said, if you have a pullout (trash or otherwsie) I would not recommend using a side mounted pull because it will be very awkward - use a top mounted pull or knob.

I actually got confused reading your post so my comments are limited. I agree with numbersjunkie about the pull-out trash - we have a knob on ours that is placed at the top but to the side. My other comment is about the DW - are you using a drawer pull or an appliance rated pull. Most dishwashers these days require a bit of a tug to open them, unlike cabinet drawers with their ease of opening because of the rail systems they are now mounted on. So a drawer pull will not last on an appliance unless you adapt the screws. You are better to put on an appliance rated pull.

Can you just buy some of the pulls that you want to use and temporarily mount them on your cabinets with tape to see what they would look like. There doesn't seem to be any hard and fast rules with regards to pulls and knobs and where they are used or how they are mounted.

I think the pulls will look fine as you described them. I was planning on doing that myself, but still had some doubts until I visited my DB and SIL's a couple of weeks ago. I hadn't noticed this before, but they only have pulls in their kitchen. No knobs. ALL of the pulls are mounted horizontally--even on the uppers. It looks great, and she said it was very easy to get adjusted to and loves them. Theanimala (on the FKB) has hers this way too, IIRC. You might check that out also.

Thanks for rewriting that for me (I'm easily confused when given too much info). I agree with breezygirl - if you like the uniformity of the look then I would go for it. There doesn't seem to be any rules for this stuff. Someone (don't remember who) put 4 or 5 different pulls/knobs on her cabinets and it looked great - just like yours will. Just confirm the DW pull.

I checked the FKB, and it was Theanimala (featured on the main page) who put all of her pulls horizontally, even her corner cab. I think it looks fab!

Her kitchen is much more contemporary than mine, and the pulls are much longer and more contemporary, but I feel reassured that it will work. Thanks!

Melissa - I think I understand what you are going for . . . one of my favorite kitchens has this style, and isn't contemporary, and I think it looks great.
