My sister does that. They turn out pretty! I have some pirate flannel I bought for Seth's pillow. I'm buying a king sized pillow and covering that.

I like making covers for pillows. I especially like to applique pieces of fabric to make "pictures". Here are a couple I have made:

I don't sew, but I did have my DH (he does sew!!) sew up a cover made from an old chenille bedspread to put on a chair cushion.

I also like to put old embroidered pillowcases on ugly throw pillows, just fold over the extra. Very cottage-y looking.

It's a great idea and easy to do. Here's a tutorial for one with a fancy trim, but if you left off the trim, it would be SO easy.

You can even get a big piece of fabric, wrap and tie it in front in a decorative manner and then it's a no-sew project.

Or you could make decorative panels that you could button, snap or velcro over the front of an existing pillow. Lots of possibilities out there for you, Patti!

I can't have throw pillows scattered around because Harry thinks they're evil and must have thier guts ripped out...but...

I think the idea of decorative pillow covers that can be changed on a whim, or with the seasons and holidays, is a most excellent idea.

If Harry ever decides it's safe to allow throw pillows in the house, I'd get covers for them!

I think the Pillow Covers are great Idea. Change them for different occasions.

of course especially using seasonal materials I posted this picture and instructions years ago on the craft forum. see how the middle shows how the pillows are in the back if you make them like that (overlapping backs) you can put a pillow inside. if you don't have a lot of pillows you can make as many of these slipons as you want (they store flat on the linen shelf, Then fill with those plastic store bags. a good place to store the bags too and you can make them as "fluffy" or hard as you like.

My DD's "gifted" class made pillowcases out of fleece and donated them to a program that gives the pillowcases to children in the hospital for cancer treatments. These are 9 y/o and they made them in an afternoon in the classroom... so there was no sewing. They cut strips on the sides and tied them, leaving a fringe. Very cute, and the kids were so darn proud of themselves. (If I wasn't so cautious, I'd post the picture.)

DH's aunt made throw pillow covers for all the grandchildren from their grandmother's old handkerchiefs (she passed away last fall). She sewed them onto a large square of coordinating fabric, made the cover out of that. A sort of keepsake.

Here are supper simple directions for making pillow covers. Envelope covers are so easy and quick to make, I have made them for toss pillows and bed pillows. Have made "slip covers" for the backs of my director chairs and made pillow covers to match. Easy way to decorate for the seasons, I have sets for the holidays.

Gee, I posted yesterday and it isn't up there! Mary, I don't have a creative bone in my body so I thought I'd come up with an original idea. LOL! Should've known you talented people would already be making them.

Flamingo, I did look up the instructions you kindly sent, but it may have just as well been written in Greek. I look in awe at all the pretty things you make and the gorgeous material you use.

I really admire all of you who make all the neat stuff you post pictures of. You're so talented! Love the idea of a new use for all those plastic grocery bags.

I wish I could sew. I'd make cushion covers for every season--and wouldn't have so many pillows stuck in the closet!

An easy way to make pillow covers is to use dinner napkins. You can buy seasonal ones and hand sew or even use a fabric glue since the edges are already finished. Sew up three sides and velcro the fourth.
