Pottery Barn Dinnerware
Comments (30)When we were down to TWO bowls in our everyday dish set I started looking for something new. I found (surprise!) Christmas dishes that don't look very Christmassy, a Southern Living product produced in conjunction with Ballard Designs. They were inexpensive to begin with, and after the post holiday sale price AND a coupon, I think I got three sets of four place settings for what one cost originally. They are mostly white with a spray of greenery across the plate or bowl and the name of the plant in red script. I absolutely love them, and my meandering point is not to look in the obvious places for your dishes :-)...See MoreEveryday dinnerware recommendations
Comments (56)Another vote for Fiestaware here. They are just so...happy. And very timeless, all-American, and all the other great things said here. The drawbacks for me personally are weight/size (on the heavy side, and cannot stack as many in cabinets as I'd like) as well as silverware marks. I primarily use the cream color (which is not really cream, IMO, but more of a light yellow) and after almost 4 years I am seeing lots of little marks on them. My friend has white, and hers are far worse. It doesn't really bother me and I think this happens to most everyday ceramic plates...but it's something to be aware of. Probably much less noticeable on the medium and darker colors. I do not care for the shallow bowls or coffee cups that are included in the place setting boxes, so I buy open stock. I like the big, deep bowls (I think maybe they are labeled 'chili bowls'?) and the mugs with the larger handle. Happy shopping!...See MoreHow is this dinnerware?
Comments (11)I have Royal Doulton dinner sets, they are 30 years old and say right on them Made In England as part of their backstamp. In 2009 Royal Doulton, Wedgwood and Waterford Crystal were formed into a single company WWRD Holdings and it was at that time that a large part of the manufacturing was moved out of England. The plates will no longer give a country of origin but may say something like Wedgwood England which some have said is misleading. However, The dishes that you are looking at appear to have been discontinued in 2010, hence the cheap price, so my advise is to go and look at the backstamp and see what it says. Dishes made prior to 2009 were probably made in England. I just went through this process of replacing dishes. As I type I have dishes all over my DR table. I was looking to add plates to my good china, my Royal Doulton. I didn't need whole sets, just the plates, family dinners are getting too large for my set of twelve. I wound up buying 2 different colours of blue Fiesta to complement my dishes which have a blue border. Fiesta is made in the US (still), is china and is lead free and you can buy individual pieces. I also wanted to replace my Pflatzgraff daily dishes because they were just old, chipped and some have broken. Now, my set were made in the US which is no longer the case. They are now made in China and from my research are not of the same quality. I wound up buying Corelle dishes. Interestingly, when I opened my sets of Corelle, the plates and bowls were stamped made in the US but the mugs were stamped Made in China. I have tried in the past to google differences in quality wrt to the china or bone china itself and can't find anything. The only thing I have found is wrt anything lead free and that pertains to the glazing found on some dishes. I don't know if any of this helps or not. Replacing my daily dishes and finding ones to complement my good china has taken me two very frustrating years and countless hours on the internet. My DH is glad the decisions have been made.. (Please I have nothing against products made in China. It was just that because the products I needed were made in the US I chose to do so. - Hey, I'm Canadian)...See MoreFiesta - time for my first set of dishes
Comments (26)Thank you all so much for posting your likes/dislikes with Fiesta! You are all so helpful. Eileen you are supersweet. I do not have a dillards near me. I will keep my eye out for sales at kohls and Macy's though. I don't think I will be buying the place settings. I don't have much use for the mugs and I dont think I will need as many bowls as I will the plates. That is one of the things I like about it. How easy it seems to buy exactly what you need while being able to mix and match such pretty colors. I am going to order a plate of the three colors so I can see it in person today. If I love it, which I have a feeling I will, I will start a wish list on Amazon and start ordering peices. I have already been scoping out ebay too. :) Of course I have a tendancy to go overboard so I already have visions of a platerack molding type thing going around the kitchen so I can have a "plate" backsplash for color and to have the smaller plates handy, and lots of mixing bowls and carafes on top of the cabinets for color there. I think I might have to see if one or two more colors will work with the mix if I am planning on open storage. I have a picture of a gorgeous white kitchen with tons of fiesta everywhere that I have saved for years. I don't think I will ever have that white kitchen but I think the fiesta will still work. I have no idea why I am so in to lots of happy colors all of a sudden but I am so looking forward to this. :) Makes me love my crazy butterfly curtains all the more. They were my best ebay bargain of all time and I am so glad I made a big stink when the people buying my last house wanted to write in the contract that I leave the two panels I had hung. I have the perfect spot for 5 of the panels in this house and I am going to use the 6th to get a roman shde made for the window over the kitchen sink. Best $100 including shipping I ever spent on ebay!...See Morealisande
