Where to find quality upholstery fabrics online?

Hello! I'm new here, though I've been lurking for a year :) Recently I inherited a dining set, but the colors in the chair cushions don'e match my house at all. They're in good shape, so I won't remove them in case these colors come back in style down the road, but I want to recover them with something more modern. Any ideas? My local fabric stores don't have much to choose from. Have any of you ever purchased fabric online with good or bad experiences?

Hi, I'm reupholstering a sofa and loveseat so I went nuts looking for fabric stores online. I was leery about ordering fabrics online but after searching and talking to friends I found 2. They're both good sites for fabric. There's Newtoto.com They will send free swatches of fabric to you which is nice, but they do charge for shipping of any material you buy.
The other site I found is Fabricguru.com They charge $1,00 per swatch, but their shipping on any amount of fabric is $4.95. Out of both of them Newtoto has the best customer service and faster shipping. Because I wasn't sure what color I wanted to do my sofas in, I just called them and asked that they send blue fabric upholstery swatches, and they did. Fabricguru won't do that. Newtoto also describes their fabric in more detail on their website which was very helpful. Both stores have 'remnants' sections and the remnants are cheaper. Good luck. I'll be making my own post soon. I'm almost done reupholstering and now I need to find a wall color..

I just ordered fabric for 3 different projects from House of Fabric. I saw the fabrics IRL at a local store, but ordered here because the price was better. Definitely order swatches/samples before ordering yardage, no matter where you buy from! The color and scale of the pattern can look MUCH different in person than it does on your computer screen.

golfcourse don't let me talk you out of Princess, my biggest gripe about Princess is the cold weather behavior which IMO limits it to the Gulf Coast and desert southwest. Like I have said use a blend and there are a few with Princess in the blend. IF your local conditions are right for Princess it will dominate, if not one of the others will.

Fuschia is a tough color. The shades are so wide ranged. Here's some on ebay. Where are you getting it slipcovered? When I got a quote on getting my chairs slipcovered I had the same problem but the upholsterer had many different weights and types of fabrics available to order. Does your upholsterer not have access or are you using a private person? The problem with using something underneath is that with a white cover you will likely be washing it fairly often and it will be a pain to arrange an underlayer each time. Maybe you could staple the underlayer on?

Some online stores may be able to get certain fabrics that are not listed on their sites. They have a section where you can type in the details and get a quote. It's worth a try. #1 Fabric Co. has a tab at the top of their home page called "Get Quote". Decorator's Best is another online store you can try. On their site, I typed in your fabric info in the search box. They didn't have it, but that search took me to the page where you can type in the info and get a quote. The upholsterers who did my chair use fabric.com. I bought my fabric from Calico Corners. They have brick and mortar here.

I've recently ordered swatches from buyfabrics.com

There is a fabric superstore near me that also sells online, maryjos.com.

Denver Fabrics has a wide selection and known locally for great sales. I am not close to the store now and miss hanging around. On the positive, I've saved myself from buying what is really not needed.

I love the look of that chair!

I have used Calico Corners and have been very pleased. I also purchased swatches from Mary Jo's and may use them for my next project.

For the particular fabric I am looking to buy, Calico Corners has more color choices. Mary Jo's has better prices, but fewer colors.

i've bought from fabricguru, and their fabrics are quality.
it's true, not much of a description but being a sewer, but the pics are accurate in color and texture.
he really does carry top line fabrics, for a great price.
