oxyclean on my tile grout
Comments (2)Oxyclean is a mixture of peroxide and soda....mostly. I just read this morning about a great mix yourself cleaner. I quit using bleach a while ago as it just didn't seem to do the job anymore. Someone suggested peroxide and it has given me great results for the worse stains, bringing dungy white back to white. Here is a link for the make your own. Plus other suggestions. Here is a link that might be useful: Make your own...See Morewhat size grout line for subway tile? and recs for white grout?
Comments (14)If you have tight grout lines, you would be using unsanded grout, which looks whiter than the sanded version of the same color. We recently used TEX XT grout in Bright White--#910 in our bathrooms, and it looks very white. The large format Porcelanosa tile we used in our MB is a very white, very glossy tile, so we wanted a white grout that matched well. The XT is supposed to be more stain resistant (than other grouts?), so hopefully our white grout will be less likely to discolor (since it looks so pretty right now!). It's not necessary to seal it, but you can (with a solvent-based sealer). We sealed ours for added protection/peace-of-mind....See MoreStaining wood Table w/ grouted-in tile: how protect grout from stain?
Comments (3)So , regrouting after all is said and done is a reliable and sure backup plan. As well as it might look nicer to have everything all freshened up as well. Grout is cheap and easy too. ok that being said here is another option that I have often heard my painting buddies discuss but have never tried myself. Use petroleum jelly as masking over the grout. Brush it on the grout, do your refinishing, then clean it off. In the event you get some stain bleeding over( which I believe may happen no matter what) you can always go to plan B , regrout. If it were me I would plan on plan B. Petroleum jelly can be a contaminant for your finish and I think a good finish is more important than preserving some old grout that probably could use an update anyways...See MorePro?Dal Tile 0135 cream/ almond - matching Grout or contrasting Grout?
