I had a similar dilemma, and ended up choosing two of the "Narrow Combo Niches" from the Noble Company. They're not installed yet, so I don't have any pictures. I wanted my storage to be as unobtrusive as possible, but had previously been unimpressed with too-small niches that had potential moisture issues. When I found these, I was very excited since they make a watertight installation very straightforward and the two levels neatly accomodate soap, razors, etc. The niches were 56.75 each online, so it is less than some options but not as cheap as the Bed Bath & Beyond caddy. I'm also going to re-bottle my shampoos, facewash, etc. into plain, narrow plastic bottles. You can fit 2-3 of these bottles in the space of one normal shampoo bottle, and they look much nicer. For my brush and pouf, I plan use a natural sponge and a cute wooden brush that can hang on little suction cup hooks. Hopefully, this will look spa-like and not junky. I'll have to replace the natural sponges more often but I think they're nicer on my skin and more attractive than the plastic ones. Here is a link that might be useful: Noble Niches

The other possibility is, if you can use a saw and hammer, etc., is to make a set of slots out of 2x4s and plywood. Sort of like very narrow cubbies, but maybe w/ an open top. Scooters can fold up, though of course it would be best if you didn't have to. one bike rack (flat on the ground) http://www.canadianhomeworkshop.com/weekend/bikerack.shtml a bunch of plans, click on the "bike rack" link; you could maybe add some plywood panels about 6 inches apart to slip the scooters between. THIS ONE looks promising. Maybe you could slip a scooter into the same exact slots. Stringweaver, thanks so much for the info on the streamlined refrigerators! When I save up enough to remodel the kitchen in a few years, I definitely want to consider smaller appliances, both to gain counter space and to save energy. I'm afraid my picture was a bit misleading, though. Joy and I had actually pulled the refrigerator out a few feet when the circuit blew and we had to access the plug so we could plug it into an extension cord in a working outlet. Then we left it out so we could paint. It's now back in its designated space. Kathy, I hear you about being strategic with small cabinet space. I have ONE lower cabinet that has to hold my steamer, electric skillet, mixing and serving bowls, baking dishes, cutting boards, and colanders/strainer. Right now everything's in there and juuuuust barely fits, but I know I've got a set of Pyrex mixing/storage bowls I haven't yet unpacked. And I've missed them because I can't microwave or bake or freeze anything in the Chefmate melamine bowls...so even though I love them, I'm probably going to toss them. I like your idea of keeping seldom used appliances out of the kitchen. I think Shades does that too. Speaking of Shades, thanks Chris, for the pic of the built-in around a low window. I love that! It really frames the window beautifully! Also, THANK YOU for measuring your suitcases!! That is so kind of you! I'm guessing your hunch is right, and those were standard sizes. Missouribound, no, the minisplit will go on the main (only) living room wall. Smaller units in the bedrooms. What is above the ceiling in the pop out? The sky, lol. :-) A pop out in an old manufactured home is like ones you may have seen in RVs or travel trailers. The RV is driven to its camping spot and then, like an accordion, the owner pulls out (pops out) another little section from its side. If I ever moved this MH, they would literally fold it back into the house in order to be able to drive it without wind sheer. I'll try to remember to take some pics of the outside and post them. It's an inexpensive way of giving people a little more square footage, in my case 35 more sq ft makes a big difference. By the way, I really love your basket idea! I'm going to try that! Hello everyone I am so sorry for the late response. My little one got sick .. Thanks for all of your suggestions and comments! I truly appreciate them! I understand that what I would like to have is not going to fit in the current vanity layout we have right now. There is no time for us to change the layout now. They have started installing granite and we want them to meet the deadline to finish the house or we will be left without a place to stay! So we have decided to go with the single mirror for now. There is no point now in worrying over not having extra storage that we may or may not need in the vanity in the future. If after living in the house for couple of months we feel like we need extra vanity storage, I will add extra storage under the makeup area or in the master closet. But I will for sure replace this vanity sometime in the future with a more useful one :) Sophie Wheeler we live in Northern Louisiana. I looked up the guidelines you are talking about. I wish we knew about these before. But are they firm rules or just guidelines? The builder already sold a house with a similar layout last year so I am assuming he had the same vanity there and it passed inspection. I do not know for sure but why would anyone build something knowing it will fail inspection? :/
