I had a similar dilemma, and ended up choosing two of the "Narrow Combo Niches" from the Noble Company. They're not installed yet, so I don't have any pictures. I wanted my storage to be as unobtrusive as possible, but had previously been unimpressed with too-small niches that had potential moisture issues. When I found these, I was very excited since they make a watertight installation very straightforward and the two levels neatly accomodate soap, razors, etc. The niches were 56.75 each online, so it is less than some options but not as cheap as the Bed Bath & Beyond caddy. I'm also going to re-bottle my shampoos, facewash, etc. into plain, narrow plastic bottles. You can fit 2-3 of these bottles in the space of one normal shampoo bottle, and they look much nicer. For my brush and pouf, I plan use a natural sponge and a cute wooden brush that can hang on little suction cup hooks. Hopefully, this will look spa-like and not junky. I'll have to replace the natural sponges more often but I think they're nicer on my skin and more attractive than the plastic ones. Here is a link that might be useful: Noble Niches

we have niche in master bath that is on wall to right facing one shower head and under the shower head on that wall-- just make sure your niche is either behind the water flow or higher than most of where the water will fall--it should have about a 5 degree slope for water run off our niche is not that large--2 big shampoo/conditioner bottles plus smaller one but we have a ORB wire corner stand from BBB with tiers that we keep in corner of shower---it has finish that is not supposed to tarnish/fade and so far (a year) that seems to be still true--not lot of soap scum on it either if you put something like that in your shower--use car wax on it or some type of sealer--makes it easier to wash off we have a Simply Human caddy in two our showers and the tile has lot to do with how well it sticks--irregularity in the surface means the suction cup can't make a tight seal--and the shower head can be too close to the wall to allow for it to hang right--that happened with one of ours... Simply Human also makes a shower caddy that is a stand model and it has hooks like you use to hang a razor on in the shower one thing I wish we had put in and we still can add I guess are couple of knobs to hang washcloths on--we reuse ours vs getting new ones each time it would be nice to have something to hand them on--just like bath brush... I would echo all the suggestions everyone else is making. Although it would be an "upgrade", if you could get a shower niche in there that would be good. You don't see it in bathrooms unless someone has upgraded their bathroom or it is newer construction. Our plans initially called for one 16 inches tall by 16 inches wide I think. Unfortunately where we would have put it didn't have true framing - just enough wood to attach drywall so we had to go with tall and narrow. I noticed on the forum there are several people doing tall shower niches and putting in a shelf so you get two levels. Lots of times you would be charged per niche so having tall with a shelf would be more cost effective than two that are shorter. The other option as people have mentioned are the corner ceramic shelves that are tiled into the wall. I have that in the master bath shower stall. The only thing I will say is it gets all gunky - I don't know if it is the way the shower head is aimed why it gets wet but the lip of the shelves seem to hold a bit of water and if the shelves aren't cleaned consistently they get an orange gunky thing that is on the bottom of the shelves and therefore the bottom of the bottles sitting on the shelves. The other thing is you may have to have a one shampoo/one conditioner in the tub and maybe convince the guys to go with the combo shampoo conditioner. We are pretty good with the soaps and just go for Dove Sensative Skin and maybe a more guy soap like Irish Spring. If you go with body wash over soap, maybe more people can use the same thing. I think growing up with 3 girls and one bathroom to share - we had to take certain things out the bottom of the vanity when we needed to use them and had limited things we could keep in the shower.
