displaying plates

I am thinking of putting about 6 plates around our mirror. Would it be strange to all be the same pattern?

Thoughts?

I love plates displayed but I think they look so pretty when they are different .
I would be very hesitant with all alike. It might look
like a set table on a wall.

Thanks for the maple images, amazingly with some 230 cultivars in my database I don't have most of those listed! I'll buy a few maples from Topiary Gardens for sure. The graft listed date feature is SUPURB, I wish conifer growers did that. I'd love to be able to lable exactly how old some of my plants are. coniferjoy, thanks for the compliment and the corrections! I always welcome advice, name changes, critisism, etc. as I am just a new conifer 'fish' and learning a lot as I go. The great thing about these lables and plant markers is that I have been able to effortlessly remove lables that are misspelled and make new ones for pennies on the dollar. I am anxiously awaiting spring so I can watch all these little guys start going. Indeed, I have visions of having well meshed vistas of conifers of all shapes, sizes, colors and textures. Walking around Coenosiums gives an amazing perspective on how impressive a mixed conifer garden really is. These three images just put me at a loss of words. Shot this fall at Coenosiums.

Glad you're having finger sandwiches, cheese and fruit. My girlfriend has a party each Christmas which features nothing but sweets. I like a little sweet stuff now and then, but this is replete w/ chocolate fountain, chocolate martinis, cosmopolitans and trays of marvelous pastries. Nothing savory at all! It gives me a headache to think of it even now. My strategy the last couple of years is to eat before I go, and nibble on something seriously divine and maybe grab a strawberry or two from the chocolate fountain set-up. If there was just a little tray of sandwiches, I'd be happy.

No grooves in built in china cabinet...how to display plates etc?

I just used little rubber pads that you use on the bottom of chairs and such. They are those round things that you put down to keep things from sliding. They are about 1/2 inch in diameter. The inside of my cabinet is white as are the pads. I just stuck it to the edge of the plate and they haven't moved at all. The two plates I have standing up are actually platters, so they are bigger and heavier than the average plate. I thought about the molding, but I was afraid of putting it in and messing up the cabinet. I waited two years for that thing to go on sale. I wasn't going to add anything to it that I could mess up. :) Hope that helps!

And I love those blue transfareware plates; glad you shared - making me want to go that route since I already have some pieces (maybe add some red into the mix to predict it from being too predictable... hmmmm). Zalco/bring back Sophie!: Well, I was primarily looking for encouragement... so thanks! :) BeverlyFLADeziner: Love the photos and love the idea of layering the plates. Wonder how that's done... will have to look into it. Also agree with you about the table, this was brought in last minute and we never meant to keep it longterm. I do love the rug there, though. Thanks for sharing! :) hollybar: I agree, I think I may like them with more movement as in those photos... I even like that layered effect. I really like the plate in the picture you posted.
What is the plate's diameter?

If you could take a picture of a mock up (on the floor or on a table) of your mirror with the plates around it, that would help us visualize how they look together. To me, it would depend on the size of the mirror and the size of the plates and how they relate together.

Also, take a picture of the wall space where you are thinking of displaying them. A photo of paper mock ups taped onto the wall space would help in visualizing this, too.

Thank you everyone - I am enjoying the eye candy:)

The plate is 8.5 diameter. Here is the mock up. The mirror is a bit off center, we need to adjust, but this helps. Thanks for your help.

Consider rotating each plate so that it has a different aspect from its mates. Try it -- get six plate holders and give it a whirl [pun intended].

Have you got some more orange in this room? And more gold?

Pretty plates, but I think I would also prefer some variation. These aren't displayed on the wall, but beautiful display using different plates/designs.

I think the plates would have more impact if you found a long narrow wall for them to be hung in a row.

I was going to suggest exactly what Florantha suggested...rotate each plate in a different way. OR find other plates with similar colors.
