What are your storage plans for your master closet(s)?
Comments (68)I love seeing your closets!! We have his and hers closets in the master, and I'm not satisfied with them (and we haven't even moved in yet). Our trim carpenter suggested a simple layout for rods and shelves, which looks great. Then I asked for shoe storage like rows of cubbies (meaning get more shoes in less space). He put in a slanted shelf along the baseboard. He was so proud of it, I didn't have the heart to tell him that it wouldn't meet my needs. Now, I'm kicking myself because I'm too wimpy to insist that he rip it out and redo it. Also, the floors have been finished now. I'm to the point where I have to pick my battles. Anyway, our best storage plans for our master are to de-clutter before moving in and to keep as much as possible in our huge cedar closet (for out of season clothing and shoes)....See MoreMaster Closet Pics and Ideas Please
Comments (20)beautiful, marciab! Chisue, that's funny that you mention the shoes. When we moved into the current spec home, the master closet had a built in cubby for 50 pairs of shoes. Since we take them off at the front door, I never used it, and took out 2 of the vertical partitions, and did a makeshift tshirt/pants shelving area. Now, we're building, and we have both a hall closet and a mudroom designed just to store everyone's shoes by the entry. We're forced to comply with the Greenpoint checklist for new builds, and you actually get one point for having a place to put shoes in the entryway (better indoor air quality, I guess)....See MoreMaster Suite Design - Built-in wardrobe vs Walk-in closet
Comments (42)I totally agree with cpartist. You are really limiting yourself by staying in the footprint you made for yourself. Considering the investment you will make in the addition, I would want to do everything I could to make this room and possibly the laundry room/office work. I would also think about landscaping. Maybe your bedroom doesnt look to the patio because you move it to the back of the house, but you have succulents and cacti planted in front of the bedroom windows for a beautiful view. I'd start over with a fresh piece of paper and think about every option. I say this because I am doing a master suite addition to my house. I put a lot of thought into what I wanted. The people on this board also really helped me and I hired an architect. We came up with a great plan and will be starting this week on the project....See MoreIn Master Bedroom, should I replace dressers with wall to wall closet?
Comments (10)Yeah, in our old house we dressed in the bedroom, but when we designed this house we on purpose moved that activity from the part of the suite where the bed is. My DH travels a ton for work and often has late or early flights, so we designed our master to keep noise low in the bedroom section. When you open the door to the master suite, you are in a short hall. The dressing room/closet is on your left, then the bath. There is a cased opening directly in front of you that leads into the bed area. Basically, there are no doors in the bedroom part of the suite. People who want to be super close to their toilet or closet might not like it, and it wouldn't work at all if our closet were small, but it is so perfect for us! He can lug his suitcase in, brush his teeth, whatever...and I am not disturbed. Plus, I like not having dressers in the bedroom....See MoreRelated Professionals
