Induction cooktop frameless? Cutout size?
Comments (8)I only have experience with our 30" Monogram induction cook top which is frameless. It does not sit flush with the granite counter. It is above the counter, with maybe an eighth of an inch or less space between it and the counter surface. It might be a good thing in a way, because I can clean the gap by sliding a damp paper towel along/under the edge. So far I have not spilled anything of note :) There is a nearly identical Profile version of ours, and I think there is a Profile framed model as well. BTW- During templating for the granite counter, they measured the actual cook top to be able to account for some protruding screw heads. Even at that, when they dropped the cook top in, it was a very snug interference fit. They set the cook top on a layer of dark grey foam tape, which I can only see if I get my eye down to counter level and look under the edge. Maybe the foam tape is creating the slight gap under the cook top's edge. I prefer it this way in any case....See MoreReplacing electric cooktop frustration...

Comments (5)Well, I really "Blew It" as far as my first ccoktop for the new kitchen, (back in 2006). I bought probably what was the fansiest smooth ceramic cook top ever built. It had all the bells and whistles, timers for each burner, burner bridging, etc etc. It was a 36" semi circle, the only one ever made. Well in less than a year that succer was giving us trouble and No help or returned fone calls from the manufacturer, (Caldera). With the help of the store I bought it from, and their distributor, I finally received a call from the manufacturer, I HAD to pay for a replacement CPU board, (which I did not think was the problem) I thought it was the touch control board. They sent the new CPU, I installed it , same problem, Touch controls would beep without being touched and pretty well do what they darn well pleased. Well one night instead of going to bed, I came down to the kitchen, to find not only had the cook top managed to unlock itself, but it turned the largest burner "Full ON". That's nuff, next day it was in the trash! I had to redo the granite, to make a rectangle instead of a 36" semi circle, not cheap but well worth it, as now, thanks to Garden Web, I knew about induction, and I replaced that piece of junk with an Elux Icon Induction Cooktop. Wife and I could not be happier!!! So you see, Your "Granite Tweaking" is pretty minor, compared to what I had to do!!! Good luck on your quest! Gary...See MoreDo you use a cover for your cooktop? Comments (32)A little history. The noodle board vs stove board:. The noodle board is used in homes where pasta is traditional. The stove board is used in homes where summer kitchens are common (summer kitchen is a kitchen outside of the house, so you don't heat up the hs. in the summer). For those of us where neither pasta or summer kitchens are part of the culture we call this the pastry board. It moves around to many surfaces, stove, table, dry sink etc. And we always had a marble piece to fit it so we could do butter pastry. Once we had electricity (1959) we kept it permanently on the old wood cooking stove, since the new electric stove was hidden in a tiny pantry (we weren't really ready). So, don't feel bad if you don't know what a noodle board is, your ancestors probably didn't eat pasta much. I use a noodle rack myself because it's takes up less space. My pastry board is well over 100 yrs old, is 30 inches wide, all one slab of wood! It hangs from a square nail attached to my possum belly kitchen queen (now coffee station). I use it as my grand mother did, and love that it softens my cooktop....See MoreCEFreeman
