I showed my husband the tutorial you wrote. We have a large mirror to hang but we're nervous as we'll be nailing into grasscloth. We'll definitely make a template first and make sure we get it right the first time.

I do the same thing as you when arranging several pics on a wall. In fact, I suggested it here before and a poster laughed it off. HA! Seeing your wall shows that it works.

The room is very pretty and I love what you did with the gallery wall. I like how most of the frames are very thin but have wide mat boards.

juddgirl, the frames are thin (width) but the bronze ones are pretty deep. That's why I got DH to help me. The two largest two are so heavy! She is fun to shop with. Knows what she likes, usually has a good idea about what she wants.

Where did you buy the brown paper for the templates?

Thanks! The brown paper came from Lowes. I had to ask, even after looking for 5 minutes and I usually can find anything there. It's very thick, used for covering floors when painting or protecting them after finishing/before moving in.

We keep a large roll of the brown paper on a rod in the garage. I'm not sure if my hubby rigged a shower/curtain rod or what because the roll of paper is pretty wide. It comes in handy for alot of things.

Thanks for the tutorial. It was perfect timing as I'm working on a photo wall in my LR but I detest nail holes. I love your wall and the other non-picture items. I would have never thought to put a pic so close to the ceiling. I did notice that your frames are different colors. I read somewhere, a while back, that the frames should be the same color so that you focus on the picture and not the frame. I'm assuming now, that isn't the case? Or does it depend if the room is formal or casual?

Hey - love the creamy neutral walls, the aqua lamp and the lovely collection of pillows. The placement of the pictures seems slightly "off", though - maybe because some appear just to be a few inches from the ceiling - or off center relative to the couch...hard to put a finger on it. The overall effect is a vibrant one, though - great job!

Thank you, Legacybuilder2. Her ceilings are 9 feet, although I probably would have done the same had they been 8. The area (foyer, dining room, living room) is large and very open. I felt that filling the wall as much as possible without overcrowding or making too busy was the best way for the grouping not to disappear or feel too small. Plus, that's what she wanted to do, so it's not like I had to talk her into it. Heck, I was glad she was making up her mind after a twelve months. lol

Whether to use one color frame or several is a personal preference, but the choice (to me) also dictates the feeling as well. All one color appears more formal to me, more rigid. Nothing wrong with that, if that's what the homeowner wants. Plus, DD2 is about to be 23yo! She's young, and I think her home should reflect that and her sense of fun!

Deedee99, thank you! The wooden piece in the center is a vintage saddle stretcher. I saw it at my favorite antique store and sent a picture to her via text. She said no, so I decided to buy it for myself. Later that day she said, "well, it is a neat piece." I knew I had lost it.

Teachbls, thank you. I had seen the lamp but it was priced too high. I hesitated sending her a photo for fear she'd fall in love with it, but she agreed it was more than she wanted to pay. Next time I was in antique store, it was 50% off - sold! No matter where the sofa is placed, it is not centered on the wall, unless you don't want a table next to the windows. You have to be careful of the seating area interfering with the natural walk way into the guest/children area of the house. She had pulled pictures from were done in this fashion. The space must be looked at entirely, instead of "over sofa."

Awwwww Allison, I can see your special touch! Such a pretty space. Your DD sounds a lot lot my youngest who *knows* what she likes, so never try to talk her into anything *I* like. ;o)

I'm so excited for you and the upcoming event! You will be beside yourself even MORE once the little one gets here. Youngest DD just had her 2nd(1st one is 4)and it's my second GD in 15 years~~needless to say, i'm ecstatic! Congrats to your growing family! ;o)

oh to be 23 again....lol! I have different color frames, I was just going to end up painting them the same color. Maybe I'll be adventurous and keep them the colors they are now.
